Whether written centuries ago or just last year, literary couples show that love is timeless.
Shoe Horned
I rolled out from under my newspapers and cardboard tent thinking maybe today I could paint the changes into my life that I’d been dreaming of for the past fifteen years. I saw it all in my mind, but that’s about as far as it went. Under a little ray of sunlight that shone down into the alley I called home, ugly blotches and swirls or ink ran out onto the paper. I was trying to capture the change I wanted in my life, but I couldn’t get the picture to slide from my head down through my scabby arm and out of the pen onto the paper. It just wouldn’t come. Knowing my life as well as my art was at a stand still at least for today, I put my pens away and stepped out of the alley and into the street to make my living.

Reincarnated Tribe
"Cora Ann Black" The bell rang indicating that it was time for the students to head to their first class of the day. In my case, however, was trig. It wasn't an easy class and one that was complicated to grasp unless you were born to be smart. As everyone rushed to their classes, I stood at my locker with my head against my locker as I attempted to will away the throbbing headache caused by the echo of the bell. My headaches have occurred more recently in the last few days than I would of liked and the worst part was, is that they keep getting worse by the day and I had no proper answer on why that could of been. I was new here and don't have anyone to call friend. I was lucky enough to find my assigned locker for the year without any guidance. My thoughts got interrupted as a wave of pain erupted from my temples and forehead, causing me to kneel over and drop anything that I had been holding, fell to the ground. I clutched my head as my felt my vision go black and then there was nothing. Just a black void that had dragged me under.

The Night Owl. Runner-Up in Return of the Night Owl Challenge.
We heard the news on a Sunday. ‘So fitting', I had thought to myself dryly then, a little smile dancing wistfully across my face at a memory of you, dressed in your ill-fitting suit, sitting in your favoured spot, on the aisle at the front of the flock. Blue veined hands holding tightly to your hymn book, your voice always strongest, proudly loudest when your favourite part of the verse was being sung.

The Bird's Chirping
The bird's chirping sounds woke me up; I opened my eyes to see a bright sky when I tried to lift myself up. I felt a heavy arm around my waist when I turned around to see it was john sleeping peacefully. When I saw his face, I realized he was handsome, and as my eyes moved down to his lips remember how warm his lips were when he kissed me. The thought itself is giving me a different feeling in my stomach. I don't know why suddenly I wanted to kiss him as I moved close to him "don't even try," he said with a smirk without even opening eyes. "says who the one who had a boner?" I backfired.

You Have a Bright Future Here
The furious sun is starting to rise again over your horizon, and soon enough, the cold rocks where you slept will become like hot coals, untouchable and unforgiving. It's been like this every day since you've been here, and the heat and its effect on your callused and charred body are only getting worse. Soon enough, you'll end up like Cheryl. You all know what happened to Cheryl, even if you don't. One day her skin went from beet red to a prune-like purple, and then she started screaming, laughing, and then she disappeared. When he was still around, Greg proposed to have a ceremonial funeral, but there was always just so much work to do that soon it was just understood as canceled. Life is just too busy, between keeping the signal fire up for outside help and keeping watch that the others don't go mad and, of course, looking out for the Masked Ones – you don't care what Tyler said, they are as bad as they seem. You've seen them prowling around, murmuring amongst each other in the forest, way too much. Liz and Cheryl had agreed before they left you for God knows where.

Little Ships
Dover Harbour - Kent, England - June 4, 1940 I had been watching vessels of all shapes and sizes coming across the Channel for several days, many of them overflowing with men. That's what those of us waiting on the shore wanted to see. If a boat had available space in it - as, unfortunately, some of them did - that meant that some of her desperate passengers didn't survive.
