A Complete Life
The soft, yellow fruit I just bit into didn’t taste like I imagined it would. I tried one more time before abandoning it. That was my first taste of a banana, at the age of 6. In the former Soviet Union that seemingly ordinary supermarket staple was just one of many things citizens weren’t able to access. As a child, biting into my first one on the streets of Vienna, after having to conquer the novel unwrapping process, it was my first realization that a lot of surprises were looming, some unpleasant ones and some thrilling.

I Am Outraged and Filled With Rage
I took some time off from writing this afternoon to watch a video clip on Ukraine that popped up on one of my feeds. It was a news program and two reporters were covering the sickening deaths, rapes and violation of human beings at the hands of retreating Russian forces in the town of Bucha. I am outraged at the actions of these Russians forces under orders from Vladimir Putin.

Thank you, pandemic!
My life was standard. I was sharing an apartment with three other roommates. The apartment was in a middle-class section on the southside of town with quick access to nearby shops and food. I had two cars. One I had purchased about seven years back and had paid off a couple years ago. The other I still had a lien on which required me to maintain full coverage insurance.
