A Date with Disaster
The evening was warm and breezy. Shane was on his way to pick up a girl his friend had set him up with. He was hoping for a nice enjoyable evening. His friend, who had orchestrated the date, had went on and on about how pretty the girl was and how much fun. They'd described her personality as bubbly, in fact. As he drove up the driveway to her house, he noticed it looked nice and normal, after some past experiences he'd had, he was glad to see this.

Adventures in Mansplaining
Where would the world be today if it weren't for the men who feel the moral obligation to explain things to women that they already know? I wonder how many times in history a man took credit for a woman's idea, simply because he was too stubborn to believe her in the first place? Did Benjamin Franklin's wife try to teach him about electricity for years before he decided to SHOW HER by taking his kite out in that infamous thunderstorm? Was Isaac Newton really hit in the head by an apple that was thrown at him by a frustrated woman rather than from a falling tree? These are the things that keep me up at night.

The Distance Isn't So Bad
About a year and a half ago, I met my boyfriend Jason. I met him over a dating app, not expecting it to actually turn into anything so I didn't get my hopes up when he asked me to meet for coffee. I had previously went out a couple times with a guy from the same site, but it turned into a disaster so the fling ended as fast as it started. Because of that, I was skeptical to try again with someone else. Needless to say, I met Jason the very next morning after we started messaging each other the previous night. We met at the Dunkin' Donuts down the road from my parent's house and surprisingly he was staying literally right down the road from me. I ended up running super late for our first encounter, but I barely cared if I showed up to find he had already left. I wasn't going to even give it a second thought because why should he wait 45 minutes for a complete stranger? That was not the case, though. I walked in and realized instantly how his profile pictures had not done him any justice. I was taken aback by how attractive he was. He greeted me with his perfect smile and bought me a coffee. He introduced himself and started up conversation. Jason asked me a lot about myself and he was willing to share a lot about his life as well. I don't need to explain his life details and past experiences, because the main topic here is that I found out he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and he was on leave for Christmas to see his family. I knew he was in the military because of his profile on the app but I didn't give it much thought. I guess I assumed he was working somewhere close, maybe he wasn't even enlisted anymore. He still had around three weeks before he went back and wanted to meet someone new, whether it was just going to be a small fling or a friendship, but wasn't expecting a serious relationship to form any more than I did.

Date Night!
Now, I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, or however the saying goes. My mother always told me not to judge a book without reading its content, or it was something about a cover, but essentially she was teaching me not to pass judgement upon people without actually getting to know them and so that was one of the rules I had adopted in regards to dating.

Fool Me Twice Shame On Me: Falling For A Friend
There seems to be a problem with my brain. Something on a chemical level that I just can't seem to get around. I met this guy in college, a light in the never ending storm of grey that left me struggling to adjust to this new life away from home, and he was nothing short of perfect. I'll call him Chris, a proper gentleman if I ever found one. Chris was the textbook definition of a contradiction, respectful to women yet loves shows that depict them as nothing but a object to be desired, a philosopher who had no interest in philosophy that wasn't his, good looking and athletic yet humble and kind. Someone who had all the same likes as mine yet was on a whole other level. After classes we would sit and talk for hours on any topic under the stars. Home life, writing, anime, religions, dating. Anything that brought a smile to the other's face, allowing them to grasp a glimpse of the many layers that made us before our defenses swallowed us whole.

Fifty Shades of Nope
I was set up by a friend of mine to go on this blind date with this guy she knew through work. At first, I thought, gee, I must be desperate. But then after I thought about it, it would be nice to go out and have a guy treat me to a nice dinner. It had been a while since I went on a date and what could it hurt? I wasn’t looking for true love.

The Date From Hell
Ashlyn Harper had no idea she was about to embark on the worst date of her life. Considering her dating history, which was quite short as it was, that was saying something. The Ex Files

A Friendly Set Up
"Hey! I know this is totally last minute...." This was a typical phone call from my friend, Dan* (names changed to protect the not-so-innocent). He was the kind of person who lived by the seat of his pants, charmed everyone into being his accomplices, and loved to stay up late contemplating life over a drink or two. Therefore, this phone call was no different.
