Stereotyping

This is more commonly known as gender stereotypes. This is when people are expected to act a certain way because of what gender they are. This can go back to a time when people had a clear idea of the 2 types of gender in the world. Nower days people can be classified as all different gender not just 2, but some people think there are 2 clear genders in the world and that they mind isn`t as evolved as others.

Some people think that no matter what year it is even 2020 people still think that using stereotypes is right. Lucky enough I have grown up not being brought up without being stereotypes as much as some people I know. Some people I know have been brought up with the stereotypes of not only women but men as well. People around the world think that it is just women being stereotyped, but it is not men can also.

There are four basic types of gender stereotypes these apply to both men and women. The first type is personality traits this is when people are expected to be a certain way. This could mean that women are meant to be emotional while are meant to hold back their emotions, self-confident and aggressive. The next stereotype is domestic behaviours this is when men and women act a certain way. This could mean that women are meant to take care of children, cook and clean the home while men are meant take care of the financial side, to fix the car and fix he home. The third stereotype is Occupations this is when men and women are meant to have a certain job. This could mean that men have are meant to be doctors, engineers and pilots, whereas women are meant to be teachers and nurses. The final stereotype is Physical appearance this is when men and women are expected to look a certain way. This could mean that men are expected to be tall and muscular and women are expected to be thin and graceful. This can also extend to way that people dress a certain way, men should wear trousers and shorts hairstyles and women are meant to wear dress and make-up.Some people seem to think that women have to be kind and neutering because that is what women are meant to be like this, they have to be domestic which mean that they must have to cook and clean and stay at home while the men are meant to be strong and love sport. But what people don’t seem to rely is that people are not built this way, and some are brought up to do what they want in life. I believe that this is how people should bring up their children as this help them to believe that they grow up they can do what ever they want to do if they put their mind to it, even if they get stuck then all they need to do is push forward.

Stereotyping men and women when people are affected their understanding of who is beautiful and who is not according to social media. This can affect people in a major way because this can make people think that they are not good enough, when this is not the case all people are trying to do it fit into the mold that people make for them. The pressure of trying to fit in can weigh heavily on some people more then others. For example with women and young girls it is especially hard when they see celebrities on the TV being the size of a twig, in can make them feel like this is the way that they have to be. Men are also this the same when men and young boys see celebrities acting all strong and powerful and not showing emotions, this makes they think that this is the way they have to be. Some people will go to great length just to look a certain way, some people even go to the lengths of having plastic surgery.

Some people were brought up with very strict stereotypes that can sometimes police people’s emotions and make them think a certain way. These people were brought up to believe that women are not aloud to be strong and show anger and men or not meant to be empathetic or nearshoring or venerable. Fortunately, times have changed and so have expectations about gender roles and more and more people are free to behave in ways that are true to who they really are, this means that men can be stay at home dads and women can go off to work.
