Good Deeds

Now good deeds are rare and few. Almost as rare as a full blue moon. Never the less when it does happen you can not help, but stop and ask yourself what happens next?

I mean let us be honest. Nowadays holding a door open for someone seems so out of place. Like meatballs made out of papier-mache. Or paying for someone’s coffee on a warm summer’s day. Can have a person feeling a little disarrayed.

I recall a time paying for a person’s meal at the drive-thru, and the girl in the window ask me if this was a You-Tube prank. Or the time when I returned someone’s debit card that I found in the bank.

I remember volunteering to teach kids how to write poetry. And seeing their little eyes gleam, as their pens move with so much energy. Indeed, It was such a joyful sight to see.

But I am not here to boast I mean there are things that individuals have done for me. Like the time when I was at the bus stop with my friend. And a person overheard me talking about how I forgot to get back my metro-pass I let out. and they walked over and handed me some bus fare.

There’s also all my friends who are helping me to launch my poetry T-shirts. Wither it’s by taking pictures, giving my discounts on supplies, or just the moral support. It’s all just one big bag of joy for me.

And I got to say I couldn’t have asked for anything better than to know that I have great people by my side, to help make my dreams come to life. I have great mentors who lend an ear. A family who shares their time, and a core group who just love to hangout.

Know I know it all sounds so perfect, and believe me it is by far from it, but still, it’s close to being amazing. Alright fine, I am fibbing just a bit, but I mean “HEY!” it makes for a great story.

But seriously I have seen quite a few good deeds in my life. Like a young man helping to push a stalled car to the nearest gas station, or a kid split his cookie in half and share it with his sister. Tightly wrapped their little blanket, as they sit and watch their movie.

I watched a community join together and start a carwash, and even offer to clean the park. I have witnessed neighbors pull together and throw a barbeque for the kids, while the kids throw on a performs in return. In hopes to show their appreciation.

I have also seen ladies having baby showers for young new mothers or make meals for individuals who have no family to spend the holidays with, they even pooled money together to help a friend pay for school.

You know what? Let us not leave out the time, when a friend of mine paid for my trip to San Antonio. It was the best trip ever, and one I will never forget. I mean that is as good as it gets.

The list can go on with all the good I have seen. So I guess it’s not as rare as I first thought. At first glance, we are so focused on ourselves that we forget to stop and smell the roses, or even take the time to reflect on all the love that was sent in our direction.

Such a misconception. I guess I should really stop and count my blessing while turning this into a life long lesson.
