Saints, on Social Media
Why do people act like saints on Social media?

“The fast-food restaurant chain is to replace all their workers with T2000 Autobots”
Following this change, the restaurant chain will save up to $10000 per month and will speed up the process of customer servings, two times and the accuracy of taking orders by 100%
For a piece of news like the above, the response from social media platforms would be like below,
“Avoid such restaurants”, “They should think about workers before profit”, “Inhuman, profit-seeking bas#$%%”, “Automation is killing the jobs”, “Poor workers and their families, how are they going to survive “etc.
What a great society we live in, always willing to unite against greedy people, voicing dislike against the changes that affect other people. Truly remarkable, the unity against things that affect people’s livelihood.
Let me tell a piece of different news,
The immortality X pill is expected to be released starting from next month, it’s tested and proven to prevent all the diseases known to man with zero side effects and because of the guaranteed success rate of the pill, over 70% of doctors worldwide will lose their jobs within the next 3 months.
However, the company has decided to put the release of the pill to a vote via social media platforms since this united society might be concerned about doctors losing their jobs.
I’m sure the same people who raised their concerns about restaurant automation will stand with doctors and vote against the pill’s release. They will only accept the traditional medicine given by doctors. Even if the pill prevents all diseases.
And in another situation where,
With the invention of direct copy to the brain, more than thousands of schools and education institutes worldwide are expected to be closed within the next 4 months, and around 80% of staff are expected to lose their jobs.
However, parents can decide whether to use the new method or to use the traditional school system to educate their children
I wonder if the people who raised their voice against restaurant automation will use a method that causes people to lose their jobs, or only accept the traditional methods to educate their children so that the education staff can keep the jobs.
Saints until, it’s good for us
All three situations mentioned above are changes that affect people’s livelihoods. Restaurant automation will make many lose their jobs, a pill of immortality will make doctors lose their jobs, medical industries will be closed, making millions of different people jobless. The same goes for the 3rd scenario as well.
Will the voice of concerns, rejections be the same in all three situations? How many of those who spoke against the 1st situation will speak out against 2nd or 3rd?. Ask someone who is against a situation like the 1st one about why they are not against the other 2nd, they will tell 100 excuses about the progress, the betterment of society, and things the 2nd and 3rd situations will bring.
That is not even the truth; if occurred someday, the 2nd and 3rd situations will bring chaos to the order of things, a pill of immortality will cause an untold amount of harm to a plant with limited resources, infinite education in the hand of a wrong person, there will be more crime in one month than entire earth’s history. Compared to that, the negative effect of the 1st situation is negligible. So why would many only be against the 1st situation?
Automation is killing jobs, that is a fact, but it’s not something that started out of greed to make people lose their jobs. For ages, people have tried thousands of different ways to make things easier, less expensive, more convenient, resulting in many losing their jobs.
Think of the invention of the wheel, a simple circle-like object that would help to carry things easier; with that simple invention, a 100–200 kilo object moved previously by 2 or 3 people was replaced by a small carrier with a single wheel. There goes the job for two people. People used to farm with the help of hundreds of others when they had larger lands, but now all that is done by one or two machines.
The same people who say they’ll reject restaurants that serve using robots have to stop using any product that has replaced a worker or a few along the way. If an opportunity comes, they should avoid a pill of immortality and infinite education if they want to be true to their principles. But will they?
I don’t think even the restaurant workers who lost their jobs will stand with doctors or education staff in 2nd and 3rd situations. Why should anyone reject such amazing opportunities? Just because someone else is losing the job?.
The mindset of the restaurant owner who decided to automate their restaurants is the same as a person who accepts the pill of immortality or infinite education, disregarding its effect on the livelihood of the doctors or education staff. It’s to make things better for themselves.
So before speaking out against people trying to make things better for themselves, think about whether you’ll do the same, trying to act like a saint on social platforms doesn’t really serve anyone or achieve anything except giving a boost to our own ego about “How good and righteous we are.” And humans are not supposed to be saints. We have been selfish creatures since the dawn of civilization. Therefore, it’s high time for the saints to stop pretending.
"If you don't practice what you preach, either start practicing or stop preaching."
