Russia VS Qatar: The Hypocrisy that will occur

Anyone who knows me; knows that I disagree with the world cup occurring in Qatar, every few months something new surrounded the mess which is that world cup. Just a few days ago a woman reported that she had been raped, he walked free and she was sentenced to seven years and hundred lashes for premarital sex - this is a crime against humanity. Yet we are less than a year away from one of the biggest sporting events in the world and a glimmer of hope has shined through. I was very against Russia getting the last world cup, being a member of the LGBTQ+ community I didn't like how they had anti-propaganda laws surrounding this situation, but it takes a war for countries to finally take a stand against this country.



June last year several national football teams are stood united with the LGBTQ community. Yet this year they are playing in a country where LGBTQ+ people have very little rights. The reaction in the sporting community I believe is right, I think if this by some miracle works and causes enough people in Russia to speak out against their own country - it might cause a throwing of Putin. Yet why are sports not doing the same for other countries which have backwards laws? Why has Qatar been allowed to continue to have the World Cup? They have shown time and time again that they do not care for those who are killed, battered or assaulted and as far as they are aware those are the criminals, not those perpetuating the crimes. I mean we all know why they have been allowed to host this shit show, it is all because of something called money. This of cause makes the situation clear - that these large companies don't care because they know no one is going to stop watching the world - no matter what they believe.



I’m all for Russia being thrown out of the World Cup, I agree with F1s decision as well as Eurovision, but FIFA is a hypocrite. They had no issue taking Russian money before when it was clear that Putin was incapable of change, but while I admire Poland’s decision to refuse to play against Russia - why the fuck are they going to Qatar in the first place?



I’m English, and my football team have done a lot for promoting racial equality and standing up for human rights issues, but I hear nothing about them or any other team pulling out the World Cup over Qatar, just Russia. However I will say one thing, there is a part of me that doesn’t want Russia thrown out, I want them to compete because I want every team that they could face to pull out, the more teams that pull out the more than not only Russia get what they deserve but so does Qatar. This World Cup needs to fail, and all it takes is a team like France, Germany, Belgium, England, Brazil or Argentina to pull out. I want those teams to pull out, rather than Russia being thrown out because then it shows that countries who prosecute the innocent will no longer be supported by the western world and if you wish to continue in these events then you must undo those backwards laws.

I know no one will read this, but I felt like I had to put it out there publically - I can shout this into the void until I'm black and blue knowing that I can't change anything, but writing this down - expressing how I'm feeling about this situation may end up in front of the right person at the right time.

If FIFA throws Russia out, but still support Qatar then I don't know if this is an organisation anyone should be supporting at this point.

By all means, boycott Russia, but don't forget to boycott Qatar.
