Raye Posts Heartbreaking Update, Ends 30 Day Rant Challenge

Raye (the NYSC girl) speaks out

By Jide OkonjoPublished 10 months ago Updated 10 months ago 3 min read

In recent days, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member known as Raye has become the center of national attention following her candid criticism of Nigeria's economic challenges under President Bola Tinubu's administration. In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Raye expressed her frustrations over the escalating cost of living, stating that her monthly allowance was insufficient to meet basic needs. She went as far as labeling President Tinubu a "terrible president," questioning the government's efforts to alleviate citizens' hardships.

The video quickly went viral, sparking widespread debate and drawing attention from various quarters. Since then, Raye has said that she received threats from NYSC officials and more, pressuring her to delete the video. And in the time since, she has become a topic of national conversation.

Well, now the NYSC corper is bringing a heartbreaking update. Raye, who started the 30 day rant challenge, is now explaining why she is choosing to drop it and return to her life as usual; and also speaking out about her disappointments at how the whole thing turned out. Here's what she said.

Taking to social media, the NYSC corper Raye wrote a number of posts saying:

RAYE: I feel so ashamed that I haven't been able to continue the movement I started with the same energy I had in the first three days, especially due to the threats I've received. I truly wanted my voice to make a difference. I hoped that something good would come out of it.

I envisioned price regulations being put in place. I envisioned MTN and Airtel being held accountable for the outrageous price hikes. Yet, I went out to buy drinks again today, and once again, yesterday's price is not today’s price.

I'm exhausted, and it feels like nothing will ever change, people have adviced me to manage untill can leave the country. But what if I want to stay here? What if I don’t want to leave? Still, I look forward to the day when Nigerians will stand together as one — regardless of tribe or what language we speak. That will be the day we finally experience the change we deserve.

With all the support and love you’ve shown me, I hope you don’t feel disappointed, but seeing how easy it is to distract us and how disunited we are, I will be dropping this and going back to my normal life.

I hope one day again, someone else will make a change. 💖
