Observation - Recollection

They go hand in hand.

I noticed a variety of different people when I was sitting outside around campus one time. I noticed this one girl with glasses on laying under a tree as if she was sleeping there; with her arm under her head, very relaxed. I saw a guy in a full blue outfit; from his glasses down to his shoes. He either had nothing else to wear that day, or he just really enjoys the color blue which is fine as well. I noticed another guy on a skateboard going from one building to another; it must be nice to have an extended form of transportation; one that’s faster than simply walking. I saw a professor going to another class with a very lightly colored briefcase they were carrying. It was over the shoulder and for some reason I couldn’t stop staring at it; maybe that’s their intention with it, who knows. And lastly, I saw a girl with a very distinct hair style. It was a ponytail, but it was so much more elegant. The rest of her hair was very smooth and laid down across her head, as if there weren’t any hairs where they weren’t supposed to be. There are a lot of things in life that you may or may not notice. And while they may seem insignificant, you’d be surprised by what you can learn if you just take the time to notice the smaller things in life. They will end up as memories that you can look back and reflect on. For better or worse.

Many memories stick out to me when I look back at them. There are some that were memories that I want to keep forever and some that I wish I could get rid of them. But one in particular is so vivid to me that it feels like it was yesterday, when it was many years ago at this point. It was a Saturday night and I was watching a movie with a friend of mine. We had been planning this for about a week now after she had brought it up to me. Which I was more than happy to be a participant of her company. She and I had wanted to watch this movie together because we had both heard how awful it was, but awful in the sense that it was hilarious. Like, so bad it’s good. So, we watched it…and I have never laughed so hard in my entire life, and I don’t think she had either. On top of that, there was another B-movie out that we also had both watched but didn’t know until scrolling through Netflix I came across the sequel of that horrible movie. Instantly, we both got excited and declared we had to watch it and find out how bad it was compared to the first. And man, oh man, was it more insane and out of this world than the first movie. The entire time I’m laughing and exclaiming “how?” over and over throughout the entire course of the movie. And she was right there with me, doing the same thing but replying to me question with “I don’t know”. Out of that entire night, those moments of pure belly laughter stand out to me the most because they were so pure and innocent. We were just kids having fun, watching a stupid movie, and enjoying ourselves way too much. And even though the night unfortunately came to a shorter end than we were both anticipating or even wanted, that was the point of that night and the ones before; enjoying ourselves as much as we could. And that’s a memory I wouldn’t give up for the world. Looking back, I would say I took those moments with her for granted, but honestly, I didn’t. That time was special to me, and I didn’t want it to end because I was worried about what that meant for us afterwards. And with the knowledge I have now, it meant nothing. Those memories are just that; memories. Nothing became of us because of those moments, and it makes me sad. But, they were still lessons I learned and experiences I can apply to hopefully future endeavors where I can feel the same emotions.
