Not One but Two Great Friends: The Birth of the Sexy Tri-Pod
From drunken university students to slightly well-rounded adults...

University was a very strange time for me. It was a goal that I was striving to accomplish throughout my time at school, I had finally completed this great educational goal. However, my personal life had been shot to pieces. I was entering this big new world with very little confidence in who I was and what I wanted from life. It even got to the point where once I was finally at uni I wasn’t sure I could make it through the three years in one piece. What brought me back from the edge was meeting two wonderful people…
When I met Zoe she was this loud ball of spontaneous energy. My shy, placid self had no idea how to cope with this new London girl, who was barking questions at me at a very fast pace. Yet now, nine years on, I can’t imagine my life without her.
She encourages me to be my true self, whether she knew it or not. Her loud out-spoken nature inspired me to reveal my own voice. Re-discovering who I was and embrace it with as much courage as she did.
Of course, there have fights, my god those fights were spectacular. Two overdramatic, stubborn personalities will often clash. Nothing a few shots and a long tearful apology couldn’t fix. We have grown together as people, watching each other face obstacles that come our way, building each other up, and supporting each other through the hard times.
Heck, you may have scared the crap out of me when we first met, but I’d have you know other way.
Then there is Lizz. Weird and wonderful Lizz. Every bit my twin in every way, except gender. Our friendship was sparked by circumstance, having met her through my blossoming friendship with Zoe. At first, our only interactions were while I was drunk and delivering a very intoxicated Zoe back to her flat, she might not know it – but I always have fun flashbacks to those conversations. Sometimes its embarrassment at how drunk I was, others at how little I knew Lizz would soon impact my life.
This friendship took a brilliant turn when Lizz, possibly unknowingly, saved me from doing something I would’ve regretted (jumping off a bridge basically). It was on that rainy night that I realised she was someone I wanted in my life for many years to come.
Since then its been bizarre adventures, hilariously geeky conversations, and just bringing each other endlessly happy memories. Thankfully we don’t ever have blow-up arguments like I do with Zoe. Instead, we simply pester and annoy each other, more like bickering siblings.
You’re my wonderfully strange Wiccan twin, I can’t wait to see what the next nine years of our friendship has in store for us.
Collectively we’re the sexy-tripod (a hilarious nickname we gave ourselves on one drunken night). We confide in each other, telling secrets we’d never dare tell anyone else, knowing that any judgment comes from a place of caring (that and we’re just huge bitches).
Most people would say that a friendship of three people isn’t sustainable, we’ve been told that there is always two friends who are closer than with the other. This is not the case for us, sure we’ve individually had our doubts, wondering if the other two are closer than the other, this is simply not true. Myself and Zoe have a different friendship than I do with Lizz, however, they also have a different friendship than either of them have with me, then collectively our friendship changes; it is a friendship of trust and happiness, we’re each other’s cheerleaders, cheering each other on even from the great distance at which we all live from each other.
We’ll talk about the future and what we all want, we can see how we’ll all fit into that future and strive towards a time where we’re able to see each other more again, witnessing the successes will all eventually achieve.
They are my friends, my family, one of the things that keeps me going through life.
