My Dear Birthday Girl
A letter from Auntie to Niece

Dear baby girl,
Wow. You are turning five years old on July 1st. Where did the time go? You were a baby what feels like yesterday. You’ve grown into a beautiful little girl. You have come a long way. You went from being non-verbal to talking. You learned how to play. You have already done some amazing things. As your Auntie I am really proud of you.
Your favorite thing right now are dinosaurs. I love that for you. I cannot wait for you to open your birthday surprises. I cannot wait to see how excited you are. I love it when you talk dinosaurs to me, I have learned so much from you. I love hearing you talk about your favorite dinosaur shows like Dino Dana. Mommy told me you want to be a paleontologist when you grow up. I would be so proud of you. I want you to achieve your dreams, I want you to be able to do anything you wish to put your heart into. I will always support you no matter what. That’s what Auntie’s are for.

You were born such a good kid. When your baby brother was born, you weren’t quite sure of him. You were shy. However you have blossomed into an amazing big sister. The way you dote on your brother, the way you play with him. The way you love him. To be quite honest, I’ve never seen such a strong sibling love like the way you and little man are. You love him with every fiber of your being. When little man is mean to you, often you don’t come and tell us because you don’t want him to get into trouble. You protect him. One day you will be a great mom, and I will be so proud of you.

Baby girl, you have a sense of exploration, of adventure. I haven’t seen or heard of that in someone so young. Not in a long time anyway. You remind Auntie of when she was your age. All I wanted to do was explore. I try to bring you with me on errands to help soothe the cabin fever feeling. Whenever you are out with me, you are so well behaved, so kind. We have had total strangers come up to us and tell us how impressed they were with you. You would be so shy to say anything. When we would walk away, you smile so wide and blush a little Tiny bit.

When your Uncle and you first met, the world exploded! No, not really. However you became his partner in crime for ultimate khaos (yes spelled incorrectly because they are that chaotic together). Your world colldied with Uncle, and you two are inseparable. He understands you way better than anyone else. You two ride the same wave and you use to your advantage. He’s wrapped around your finger. If he could, he’d give you the entire world, the stars and galaxies. You are his precious baby girl.
I really just want to let you know how much I love and adore you. You’re an amazing kid baby girl. You’ve really bloomed since I first met you. You have helped heal my heart and will continue to do so in the upcoming days. Your existence means the world to me. I know Mommy and Daddy say that I’m your second mommy a lot, but I do feel like that. You are my baby girl and I would do anything for you. You are one of my reasons to live. You have me wrapped around your finger too little one.
I just wanted to say… I love you. I’m proud of you. I’m proud to be your second Mommy, your Auntie and godmother. You make my world have color in it. I thank you for that.
With Love,
Auntie Jessie
