“Holiday

Celebrate

Holiday

Celebrate

If we took a holiday

Took some time to celebrate

Just one day out of life

It would be, it would be so nice.” -Madonna

My phone pinged and I looked down and saw a new text.

Friend: What ya doing?

Me: Celebrating the Anniversary of my bday.

Friend: Huh?

Me: It’s the 9th of January. My bday is May 9th and so I started this ritual where I actually celebrate on the 9th of every month now.

Friend: that’s ridiculous and genius at the same time. More genius.

Me: Yeah, I’m listening to Anniversary by Tony! Toni! Toné! right now sipping on my French press figuring out how I will celebrate myself today. I’m contemplating all of the possibilities and how I can infuse some of my favorite things.

My friend who I had that conversation with now texts me on the 9th of each month to wish me Happy Anniversary.

I have found that the older I get the more important it is to celebrate my existence. I encourage my life coaching clients to do the same thing.

Since when do we have to limit celebrating ourselves to one day a year? Or even one month a year for that matter as many of us celebrate for a month.

I mean you hear parents a lot say,”She turned 8 months today. Or she’s 14 months!”

Why can’t we be 48 years old and eight months? That’s a milestone as far as I’m concerned. There is in fact no one just like us. Not one person. That’s how unique and amazing each one of us is. When you stop and really think about that that deserves more acknowledgment than we give ourselves. Celebrating ourselves monthly is the least we can do.

I have inspired many friends and colleagues to start doing this too. Sometimes it’s by doing something like taking a half day at work. Sometimes it’s booking a massage, getting a cupcake, taking a luxurious bath etc. One month I booked a yummy Airbnb right next to my work for the night that had a sauna, hot tub, and steam room just to change the scene.

My colleague thought that was such a great idea. She was like ,”OMG that’s a nice break I could take away from my husband, why have I never thought of that before.”

Sometimes we just need space and need a break. Celebrating my existence once a month gives me something to look forward to every single month. It gives me fresh perspective, it brings me joy no matter how small or how big I choose to celebrate.

Have you ever thought about doing a ritual like this? It’s like scheduled self-care amplified. When we take the the time to pause and take a moment to celebrate when we came into the world on a regular basis it’s elevates our energy and restores us. And when we do this we are teaching the world how to treat us because we are caring for ourselves first.

When my actual Birth month comes I celebrate the entire month. How about you?

But every month when that day is going to hit I know I’m going to call in magic because I schedule it.

I encourage you to do the same.

Try it. I’d love to hear about your experience.
