Mirror World

An intriguing Universe

By Hasan QurashiPublished about a year ago 2 min read

Sarah loved mirrors. As a child, she spent hours looking into them, wondering if there was another world on the other side. As she grew older, her fascination grew too. Now, at 28, she had many antique mirrors hanging on the walls of her small apartment.

One evening, while walking through a flea market, Sarah found an old, beautiful mirror. Its frame was carved with detailed designs, and the glass had a slight shimmer. She felt a strange pull toward it, as if it was calling her. Without thinking twice, she bought it and took it home.

She hung the mirror in her living room and noticed something odd. The reflection seemed off. She started to see movements that didn’t match her own. Shadows moved across the glass, and sometimes she thought she saw a figure standing behind her. But when she turned around, there was nothing there.

One night, unable to sleep, Sarah felt drawn to the mirror. She sat in front of it, staring at her reflection. Her eyes felt heavy, and she blinked slowly. When she opened them again, she was in a different place.

The room looked just like her living room, but everything was in shades of brown and gray. The air felt thick, and there was an eerie silence. Panic filled her as she realized she was no longer in her apartment. She was inside the mirror.

She tried to touch the surface, but her hand passed through it like smoke. She could see her living room on the other side. Her own body was sitting still in front of the mirror, eyes wide open but not seeing. She was trapped.

A soft laugh echoed through the room. Sarah turned and saw a shadowy figure coming out of the darkness. It looked like her but had glowing eyes. “Welcome, Sarah,” it said in a voice that was both hers and not hers. “I’ve been waiting for you.” “Who are you?” Sarah asked, her voice shaking .“I am your reflection, your other self,” the figure replied. “This mirror is a portal, and now that you’re here, I am free to live your life while you stay trapped in this world.”

“No!” Sarah screamed and lunged at the figure, but her hands went through it like mist. The reflection laughed again, a chilling sound that made her shiver. Desperate, Sarah looked around the room, searching for a way out. She saw a small, fancy key on a table. She grabbed it and turned back to the mirror. The reflection’s laughter stopped, and fear showed in its eyes. “That key,” it hissed, “you can’t use it!”

Ignoring the figure, Sarah put the key into a small, almost invisible keyhole on the mirror’s frame. She turned it, and a bright light surrounded her. She felt herself being pulled back. She woke up on her living room floor, gasping for air. The mirror lay shattered beside her, and the reflection was gone. Shaking, she stood and looked around. Everything seemed normal, but she knew she would never look at a mirror the same way again. From that day on, Sarah avoided mirrors, afraid of what might be lurking on the other side. Whenever she passed by a reflective surface, she couldn’t shake the feeling that her other self was still watching, waiting for another chance to take her place.
