And so it shall be

By Paige ShearsPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

There were no other living creatures in sight or sound, no dangerous creepy crawlers, no slithering serpents or buzzing wasps and flies, not even a pestering mosquito. Here, an ordinarily wonted man found himself roving all alone in the silently bare and wide reaching desert on a never ending day. Not certain of how he got there, dragging his restless soul and frayed shoe laces through the pampered honey and cider burnt sand dunes which he aimlessly scaled along with the blazing sun while drowning in the torrid heat waves.

Some shade would be hugely pleasant’ he thought to himself, running his lost hands through his scorched shaggy hair.

And so it began...

An unexpected mass of condensed silver clouds swept in, hovering between the gratefully solemn man and the unforgivingly blistering sun.

That’s much cooler, but if only I had some drinking water’ he murmured as he felt a sharp split down the middle of his thin top lip at the thought of satisfying his dehydration.

And so it delivered...

Quickly morphing into a deep iron scenic sky, the unusually thick clouds above pliantly offered him an abundance of downpour, filling only the atmosphere within arms reach around him. He threw his forehead to the heavens and summoned appreciation for having quenched his thirst, with his mouth wide open and parched tongue splayed, allowing the acceptably warm rain water to naturally run down his throat. Nevertheless, his appreciation quickly dissolved along with any sign of sweat and scanty dirt from his azure cloth shirt and busy sneakers, when he became acutely distressed from being soused.

I must seek some sort of cover from this strange and sudden rainfall’ he thought in plea with his eyebrows raised just a little as if to seek something out of nowhere.

And so it appeared...

When to his revelation he spotted a respectable tree in the far distance flourishing with forest green foliage, obviously incompatible with its surrounded landscape. Without hesitating, the man made pursuit for shelter under the lively tree as the lukewarm rain tailgated him in the same direction.

The man sourced minor relief as soon as he reached the firm standing tree, recalibrating his breath while ringing out some water from his sodden shirt, then kicking off his sneakers and pulling away his swamped socks, freeing his stiffened heels and blunt toes.

Beneath this jaunty tree he temporarily caught a break, leaning his slightly arched spine against the trees almost perfectly straight trunk, soothingly massaging into the gingerbread coloured rough bark, before soon being disturbed by a horrendously rowdy, aching and growling gut. Now tired, hangry and rushed with stomach pains, the man became irate and aggressively demanding for a source of something that seemed non-existent in his environment.

I need some food this very instant!’ he thought aloud, indignant to the idea of having his basic needs of survival fulfilled.

And so it was...

When in just that moment, a single, fine crimson apple fell from above from within the composed tree, dropping into his drenched trouser lap after first socking him on the peak of his head.

Caught off guard by the surprise thump to his head, he became infuriated, grasping the heavy and well rounded apple in his tight grip. Then with carelessness and impatience, he went on to greedily devour the apple, ignoring its sweet flavoursome juices that squirted out with each disgruntled bite while oozing from the corners of his senseless lips, all while unconsciously thinking...

One apple is not nearly enough to curb my hunger, I’m sure to die of starvation.

And so it shall be............
