Mercy Johnson Opens up About Cancer Scare, Having Her Thyroid Removed
Mercy gets honest

Nigerian actress Mercy Johnson Okojie is opening up for the first time about removing her thyroid and her cancer scare. She had the very revealing moment on the latest episode of her Youtube cooking show where she had special guest, Joke Silva, on for a chat. During the conversation, Mercy Johnson asked Joke Silva about husband Olu Jacobs' health, and that led to the conversation about Mercy's own health struggles. Here is how the conversation between both women went.

Here's how the conversation between Mercy Johnson and Joke Silva went:
MERCY JOHNSON-OKOJIE: So a couple of months ago, sorry I'm going here. Sadly we all found out that Uncle Olu has dementia. How has coping been? Because apparently things have changed, you miss lots of things. How do you augument? How have you been able to adapt to this change?
JOKE SILVA: Uhmm, well I think for me it was getting to the place of acceptance. You know sometimes when a partner starts exhibiting some things and you know, there will be the religious side that will say "oh, you need to do all these prayers and things", and then there are also other sides that will say "oh you should use all these natural herbs" and you're doing everything that you're being told to do and there is no change, it's almost like the patient is getting worse. But when you get to the stage of acceptance that this is your new reality, honestly, it's so much easier. It's so much easier. You will realize that okay, this is the new season, this is your new reality. So working with your partner, you meet them where they are you know. Wherever they are, you just meet them there and it is so much much easier.
MERCY JOHNSON-OKOJIE: That's a huge lesson, because Odi [her husband] and I have actually been here and I have never discussed it where we had, like uhm, a scare. I had a cancer scare in quote and I had like my thyroid removed. And it was like a journey for us because we had kids. My last was six months at that time and then we kept on saying "okay, we have to understand that this is the new us, let's go get the surgery done". And then we got there, they said I was going to be on medication for the rest of my life and it was a reality that we had to sit down. You know, them giving me a timing and telling me you can't miss your medication. Once you wake up that day, that's the first thing. Telling me all of the side effects. So I'm reconciling with this you're saying, it's the truth. At the point you realize this is where we are, let's grow from here, let's live in this comfort zone.

Wow! It is so wild what people are going through behind the scenes and in their private lives. What do you think about what Mercy Johnson-Okojie revealed? Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment either below or on my Jide Okonjo Facebook post.
