Let's Talk About The Reasons Why Many Intelligent People Aren't Happy
Do you want to know why?
In general, people consider themselves happy if they have a brilliant career, a loving partner, and a united family. What is happiness? It is a question with multiple answers. English psychologist Ed Diener says that happiness is a "subjective well-being", more precisely a combination of the satisfaction of one's life and the ability to experience more positive than negative emotions.
Fortunately, writer Ernest Hemingway said, "Happiness for smart people is the rarest thing I know."
Why smart people aren't usually happy?
They have deep analytical thinking
People with a high degree of intelligence tend to analyze the events they go through, the environment in which they live, having the insight to predict certain situations. Although it is a quality, it can be tiring to analyze too much, especially when the conclusions you reach are not exactly gratifying and encouraging.
It is enough to observe the people around us, with their defects and their true intentions, the questions about life, the unanswered questions, the global problems, to realize that it is recommended to detach ourselves from them, to be calmer and happier.
They have too high living standards
People with high IQs have certain expectations from life, people, profession. If expectations are not met, they are disappointed. Although they have a high IQ, they do not have a practical IQ to help them accept reality as it is.
They cannot detach themselves from the imaginary ideal world. They want this to coincide with the real one. This cannot be done, causing dissatisfaction and frustration.
They have very high goals
A high IQ causes people to imagine and set higher goals and meanings.
Thus, they cannot enjoy what they have achieved so far, and if they fail to reach their new goals, they become unhappy, realizing that the world in which they live is not the right place for them. If you can't accept the world and the period in which you live, you can't be happy.
They are too severe with themselves
Because of their deep analytical thinking, these people remember the mistakes of the past, the mistakes they try to compare with the principles, and the current high standard of living.
It is not hard to imagine what kind of feelings he is experiencing: dissatisfaction, unhappiness, and inability to forgive. It is known that all this drives away happiness from human life. Therefore, it is not surprising that when we have this tendency we cannot be happy.
They feel unappreciated, having no one to talk to
How beneficial it is to surround ourselves with people we can talk to, especially the things and issues that concern us! Once you feel understood, the problems don't seem to have the same weight. Intelligent people hardly find interested and passionate interlocutors for the same problems, reaching to feel loneliness.
Emotional intelligence must be cultivated from childhood
Their favorite topics of discussion are rarely the plans for the weekend, the weather, or the food, wanting to discuss fascinating and meaningful things. Scientists have concluded that people with a high IQ do not need to socialize at the same level as those with a medium IQ to be happy. However, they enjoy socializing and having interesting conversations.
They can often develop psychological problems
According to studies over time, it has been found that some people with a very high degree of intelligence have developed conditions such as bipolar disorder or social anxiety.
Research is still being done to find out if these results are correlated with a high IQ. Of course, not all very intelligent people suffer from such conditions. However, they are prone to various forms of depression as a result of the in-depth analysis they undergo.
