Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust
Fire. Fire is supposed to be intimidating and terrifying. It's supposed to represent everything evil and all that Hell stands on, a den of iniquity. It's supposed to be a representation of consumption as the flames lick their victims and devour all in its path. It's supposed to signify ferociousness, strength, devotion, and passion. It's supposed to symbolize fear and karma; things that go in can never come out the same. Fire also models death and the ashes it creates. Fire is a reminder of love and the warmth that radiates off of it. It's what relaxes most of us when we're cold; what we imagine and think of in a log cabin, or camping out at night; when some of us like to have a crisp beer in front of a bonfire with friends or having a small fire pit to roast some marshmallows and sing campfire songs. But of all things, I never thought that witnessing something that I assumed would be so healing and relaxing turn out so differently.

Side Chick
So let's start where this all began. I worked at a fast food company for 3 years and well I found it horrific but that's a story for another time. Whilst working long hours here there was always a manager I feared working with. The manager made me cry on one of my first shifts by shouting loads at me whilst I was training. From here on in I'd spend most shifts hiding from her and even changed my availability as much as I could so I wouldn't see her.

I loved you in a way that only another woman who's had a best friend, at that age, can. I loved you like a sister, like we'd be best friends forever. I saw past the things that made others dislike you. I wanted to see you win in life. We were weird together, happy together, kept each others secrets and made promises we thought we'd take to the grave. There were times, after high school, that you and I lost touch. Babies have a way of doing that, so do boyfriends — bad and good — marriages, and geographical distance didn't help. But when other things in life failed we found our way back.

How I'm Moving On
Recently I have had the pleasure of falling in love for almost 2 years. But my pleasure of being loved was short lived. He soon broke my heart like every other guy I let close to me. I had no way of saving my heart from the pain I endured, and am still working through it.
