Kindred Spirits Are Different From Soul Mates

Kindred spirits and soul mates are not the same.

Some people have kindred spirits, and some people have soul mates. Some people have both. This article focuses more on kindred spirits, their signs, significance, and how important they are in a relationship. Soul mates are mentioned briefly to illustrate that they are different from kindred spirits.

Kindred Spirit: Definition

Kindred spirits are people who are connected based on their shared beliefs, core values, thoughts, feelings, attitudes, hobbies, and other interests. You can see more of yourself in your kindred spirit. It might feel like the two of you are mirror images of each other. Those who are deeply connected with that many things in common are described as kindred spirits.

Sabrina Romanoff, a Harvard-trained clinical psychologist and professor at Yeshiva University in New York, says:

"Kindred spirits are compatible, like-minded people who form strong bonds with each other based on shared perspectives."

People with kindred spirits share a strong bond that is not easily broken. Even if they do not see each other for a long time, they are still connected. When they reunite, it seems like they have always been together because time and distance did not cause them to separate.

Signs of a Kindred Spirit

It is easy to identify the signs of those who are kindred spirits.

  • Common Interests : Kindred spirits generally have a lot in common with each other. Their core values align. They have similar beliefs, opinions, and even hobbies. They tend to see most things the same way.
  • Shared Energy : Kindred spirits often have a unique, shared energy. They are never toxic. Instead of being drained, they energize each other. Kindred spirits resonate at the same frequency, and there is matching energy between them.
  • Connection : There is an instant connection when kindred spirits first meet. They form an immediate connection. There is no competition because they usually want and enjoy the same things.
  • Comfort and Safety : Kindred spirits experience a high level of comfort with each other. They feel safe, and it doesn't take long for them to trust each other.
  • Mutual Support : Kindred spirits are a strong source of support because they understand and respect each other. Kindred spirit celebrate each other's wins, and stick by during hard times, without any judgment. Kindred spirits count on each other, even when family members and friends don't.

Who Might Be Kindred Spirits?

Kindred spirits can be anyone whose spirits meet for the common good of both. A kindred spirit can siblings, cousins, grandparents or other relatives with whom there is an alignment. It could also be strangers who just met at an event, a co-worker, or a fellow traveler on an airplane.

The deep connection and shared understanding among kindred spirits can be a strong foundation for a long time relationship. Many kindred spirits enjoy each other without committing to romance.

How To Know Someone Is Your Kindred Spirit

A person doesn't have to go looking for a kindred spirit. In fact, it is better for kindred spirits to find each other. When that happens, it is like discovering a missing piece or a rare treasure you didn’t know you needed. No one has ever regretted having a kindred spirit.

What Kindred Spirits Are Not

Kindred spirits are not the same as soul mates or twin flames. Soul mates and twin flames are limited to romantic relationships. While they are characterized by love, romance, and passion, kindred spirits are characterized by common interests and a shared understanding.

A twin flame is everything you are not. It is your other half. People who are soul mates or twin flames can be just the opposite of each other. Kindred spirits are very similar to each other.

The bottom line is that kindred spirits are like birds of a feather. On the other hand, soul mates and twin flames are more often a case of "opposites attract."
