John Mayer and I

Wedding Music Video Shoot

By Yuliya JohnsonPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

Looking over shore on this gorgeous day in Miami Beach, Florida that we just flew in on our helicopter a couple of nights ago, John Mayer and I lingered in our short and sweet embrace as we headed back towards the illuminating ship on the horizon – it is our party boat! There are tons of actors and camera crews waiting to start shooting the second part of our music video. This is the video shoot for our duet song called “Always together for lifetimes and ever”. We decided to go for a wedding kind of a pop music video just like we imagine we will have one day when we get married.

The great thing about a wedding video shoot of course is that there are also tons of caterers who brought all kinds of real food for all the actors and the crew as we pull another twelve- hour day to film this. There is a variety of refreshments and appetizers that had been available throughout most of the day and even John’s favorite gluten-free pasta which happens to be something I used to make for him back in the day when we first started dating and I was spending a lot of my time staying in New York’s Renaissance Hotel suite with a kitchen and a jacuzzi while working on my new solo album and John would fly in between his trips to Florida and rest in the adjoining room there before heading back to his house to get back to work. It turned out we both like to stay in as much as we like to go out to recharge our batteries! It is amazing, but somehow, we ended up managing somewhat a balance between being in the spotlight and staying in the magazine tabloids to boost our album sales and keeping some of our relationship private enough to have a great and secure partnership. In fact, at the very beginning, we agreed to not ever consider a reality TV show admitting how much privacy we both need as individuals. John is very aware how much therapy I had to put myself through to recover from that one show I was on that I did not even know I was on before I was considered somewhat a world class musician. John literally was my hero during those interesting times of my life! He provided just the shelter I needed to get away from it all. Of course, my therapist is also awesome and so glad John helped me sort through a bunch of them and try a few different sessions before I made the decision on which counseling is going to suit me the best. Funny thing is, John and I really do not have many issues in our relationship, but we both agreed that it would be fun to do some couple therapy sessions too whenever that we have the time. So as the news media declared me John Mayer’s wife before I could even enjoy the full musical accomplishments of my own since we got engaged a few months ago we keep on pushing back any of our own marriage plans because truly we want to make sure we do not do it when everyone is expecting us to!

As we walked onto our party boat, we heard the camera guys shout that its about ten minutes to the next take. We were right next to the red wine samples and cheese which is our favorite spot to be at the end of the day anyways. Luckily, this scene takes place on the dance floor and involves John and I feeding each other gouda pieces and crossing arms with our drink to toast and kiss, then head to the lit dance floor. My white bridal gown for this set is also so long that John had to pick it up for me off the floor all throughout today’s filming. Dancing is happening all around us and our friends are so happy! Taylor Swift and Joe are the closest to us so we exchange quick compliments over the loud music and agree that we would love to hang out sometimes. In fact, Taylor and John Mayer had buried their hatchet a long, long time ago as I found out when I first met John, Taylor never really was holding a grudge against him for as long as the media wanted to portray it for, but they must sell magazine tabloids! Certainly, cannot wait to one day attend their wedding too and there are subtitles in our music video letting the audience know what it is we are yelling at each other about over the loud music, so we literally speak our lines correctly for this acting part to look awesome. Then the music stops suddenly!

“It’s a wrap, great job!” the camera man goes.

“Awesome work everybody”, I add.

“Joe and I had a great time, I hope you will invite us to star in another video sometimes again”, says Taylor.

“And you can call us anytime too, this day had been just a blast! Its hard to want to call it work.” Says John.

Counting all our blessings, as the conversation continued, we kept on sipping on our wine and these delicious cheeses. As I mentioned earlier in this story, John was delighted to have his favorite pasta for lunch today. In fact, I truly hoped that our very public displays of affection during lunch did not annoy anybody, but I am quite sure maybe we were just a tad bit too much.

“Do you guys have plans for dinner yet?” I ask looking at Taylor.

“No, we decided that if we end up feeling exhausted, then we will just order in.” says Joe.

“We have reservations at the LPM Restaurant and Bar why don’t you guys join us.” John exclaims.

Joe looks at his phone quickly and nods at Taylor.

“Sure, we’d love to join you for dinner guys!” says Taylor.

We step off our ship on the horizon and wave good-bye to others, get in our car and drive into the now beautiful moonlit sky! In great company, we headed to our delicious dinner that awaits. For the time has come to celebrate our journey of creating this very romantic music video!
