"Is It True That Edo Girls Are Loose?" - Nancy Isime Responds
Nancy Isime responds to stereotypical assumption

If there is one state in Nigeria that has a lot of things said about their women, it's Edo State. There is so much that has been said about Edo women and there are so many stereotypes that surround women from Edo State. Yes, Edo women are considered some of the most beautiful women in the world, but at the same time Edo women are also stereotyped as being "husband snatchers", "prostitutes", and "loose".
Nollywood actress Nancy Isime who happens to be an Edo women herself during an interview with BBC Pidgin was asked about the validity of these insinuations, and here's what Nancy Isime had to say to the stereotype around women from her area. Here's what Nancy Isime said.

During her interview, Nancy Isime was asked about the reputation that Edo girls have of being loose, Nancy responded saying:
I come from Edo State, one place wey dem dey call Esan Central, precisely Irrua. It's not just girls from Edo State or anything. It's also girls from this industry that I am in which is acting. Omo in this country we have a lot of work to do, especially mentally. Because once we just see babe, even me sef sometimes I dey guilty of am but I'm reworking my brain, because it can't be possible that this is everybody's reality. But it's just this idea that once we see a girl in a nice car, sometimes you no even wan ask her wetin she dey do, you go just totally write her off. In our industry, it is plagued with those kind of stories. Me I dey call myself mental health advocate. People that follow me on Instagram, them know me well that I always preach mental health. I'm a staunch believer in meditation. I work out, as much as I can. I go for therapy which I just began but I've done some sessions. I have apps on my phone that also help me to ensure that my mood and everything else is also balanced. Because for someone like me wey get so many things wey I dey do. I be actor, I be host for stage, I dey host events, I dey host for TV, I dey do acting. My acting no be just one way I dey do am. I dey act series, dey act TV films, dey act cinema films. So it takes a lot out of me. Your mind is everything. If you get your mind right, you will get your life right.

What do you think of what Nancy Isime said? Do you think she spoke well or do you disagree with what she said? Do you believe the stories you hear about Edo women as well, or do you think it is an unfortunate stereotype that strongly has to be done away with?
