I clung to him, feeling the rhythm of his heartbeat and the steadiness of his presence. “I trust you,” I whispered. “And I love you. Always.”

He held me tighter, whispering back, “And I love you. That’s why I fight. That’s why I protect. That’s why we survive this—together.”
