Over 1200 islands make up the 26 atolls of the Maldives, so it can be quite a task to decide where and how you are going to visit the Maldives. The Maldives is known for its stunning beaches, water activities, tropical blue waters, and expensive places to visit and stay. Planning ahead will make your trip more affordable and enjoyable for tourists of all backgrounds to come visit and make the most out of their holiday. Let us look at how you can plan your visit to the Maldives for your first visit.

When to Visit the Maldives

The Maldives has great weather throughout the year. If you are looking for a luxurious Beach Resort in Maldives then there are plenty of great islands, resorts and hotels such as Niyama Private Islands Maldives that are perfect to stay at and can get booked up fast, particularly from November to April which is considered the dry season and is the best period for snorkelling and diving, while in the months of May to October period during the monsoon season there can sometimes be heavy rains and thunderstorms but will be more affordable as it is considered the off-peak season. As the Maldives is a very popular tourist destination it is important to plan ahead and book well in advance so that you can ensure that your first visit will be a smooth experience that you will enjoy without having to worry about last-minute expensive prices and difficulty in finding a suitable place to stay.

Getting to The Maldives and Travelling About

Travelling to the Maldives is almost exclusively done by air, as the area is not easily accessible by boat. If you are flying into the country, you will land at the International Airport in the Maldives. From the airport, you will need to decide on how to get to your final accommodation, and this will mostly depend on where you are planning on staying. Many resorts are close enough to be reached by a speedboat and offer 24-hour speedboat services that are scheduled according to the flights of the guests. There are also internal flights, seaplanes, private ferries and public ferries. The seaplane rides and some speedboat services can be quite expensive and may not be part of your booking charges, so it is best to do your research and see if your resort does offer transportation from the airport itself. It is important to note that seaplanes generally don’t operate during the night and so timing your flight into the Maldives will also be an important factor to consider so that you won’t have a long wait to get to your final resort destination.

What to See and Do

The Maldives is a famous tourist destination because of its beautiful beaches and clear blue oceans and so most people enjoy and experience different water activities. Snorkelling, surfing, scuba diving, fishing, banana boating and even taking a guided underwater excursion with a resident marine biologist are but a few of the many activities that you can enjoy on many of the island resorts. Getting up close to the marine life and swimming with the manta rays and sharks makes for an exciting experience for first-timers who are visiting. Going for a spa day is also a great way to relax and rejuvenate and really enjoy being pampered on your holiday.

What to Pack and Take With You

The Maldives is a Muslim country and so it is important to dress conservatively for when you arrive in the country and if you are visiting any of the local islands. After you reach your resort island you can dress as you wish. So make sure you pack some modest clothes if you plan on visiting the local islands or spending some time in the capital island of Male. In addition make sure you pack summer clothes and your beachwear as well as some sarongs which are an easy way to cover up if you want to directly go for your meals, where full coverage is required. Pack plenty of sunscreen, a hat and a pair of sunglasses as the sun will be out most of the day. Carry a dedicated camera and a video camera if you have one available and make sure it is waterproof so that you can take some wonderful underwater shots.
