Strawberries are among the most appreciated fruits and it is not surprising considering that they are considered the tastiest. Many gardeners have formed a misconception about growing strawberries, but they are not at all pretentious and can be grown successfully both in the garden and indoors.

So if you want to enjoy the fresh taste of freshly picked strawberries from the garden, but you can only enjoy the presence of a balcony garden, in the following lines we will present some tips for growing strawberries indoors.

Why grow strawberries indoors

As mentioned before, strawberries are considered some of the tastiest fruits. Besides the fact that they are a real delight and can be consumed as such or in various forms, strawberries are a real source of health, having many benefits on the body.

They are rich in antioxidants, are rich in vitamin C (even richer than citrus) and manganese, help improve the cardiovascular and digestive system, help balance the amount of sugar in the blood, thus regulating blood sugar levels. Strawberries also help improve memory, eliminate stress, and reduce the risk of cancer cells.

And the health benefits that strawberries have been complemented by the fact that they are very easy to grow indoors, so you can enjoy the delicious taste not only in spring and early summer but in any season.

The steps you need to take to grow strawberries indoors

First of all, you need to choose the right type of strawberries for the interior. It would not be advisable to choose a variety that grows a lot because space may be a problem, but the smaller varieties have the same delicious taste, the mountain strawberry (Mignonette) being this time a suitable solution. Moreover, this variety of strawberries is much more resistant and less pretentious. In specialty stores you will find a greater variety of strawberry varieties, so you will have a choice.

Choose the best quality seeds to enjoy a healthy and delicious culture. The seeds germinate in about 3 weeks.

The pot or pots in which the seeds will be planted must be large and deep enough and have several vents to allow water to drain and the soil to aerate. Strawberry can be planted in both normal and suspended pots.

The land must be chosen with great care. The soil must be rich in nutrients, so try to use clean, garden soil. If you can't get garden soil, use flower soil in combination with peat moss. Before pouring the soil, a drainage material will be placed on the bottom of the pot.

The key to success in growing strawberries indoors is light. To grow, the strawberry needs a lot of light, so place the pots in which you planted the seeds in the brightest corner of the house so that these plants can enjoy at least 6 hours of light and heat every day.

Strawberry does not like water in very large quantities. The soil will be watered more until the first fruits appear, after which it will be watered less frequently, waiting for the surface layer to dry.

To have a rich harvest, you can also use special fertilizers.

If you notice that the first buds have started to appear but the leaves are not fully developed, break the buds and wait until the plant is more developed. If the first buds are not removed, the plant will make an effort to develop them and will not grow properly.

In this way, the next harvest will be richer and truly delicious, enjoying the freshness of the fruit until mid-autumn.

Strawberries are my favorite fruits. I loved them ever since I was a child. I think it's quite awesome that you can plant and grow them indoors. Don't you think?
