How I Feel about Artistes, Like Rema, Not Replying Me Until I Became Popular - Shallipopi

Shallipopi gets honest

By Jide OkonjoPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Nigerian musician Shallipopi is opening up during a new interview with Naija FM 102.7 about sliding into the DMs of his favorite celebrities before he became famous, and how he feels when none of them responded, until he started blowing up.

In a very honest and candid share that many people, especially upcoming people, indeed need to hear, Shallipopi opens up about the realities of life and this business, and explains why nobody answered his messages until he started blowing up, citing singer Rema as an example of how their interaction happened and eventually led to the song "Benin Boys". Here's everything Shallipopi had to say.

The conversation started when Shallipopi was asked "Nobody saw you and Rema doing a song together, but at the end of the day, it happened. Who actually reached out to who?" to which Shallipopi said:

SHALLIPOPI: For "Benin Boys", well normally, na me go chat am first na. Na me be the upcoming, na him be the main artiste. As e dey be before, normally when I be upcoming, I been dey text Rema say "how far?" you understand. So e get where e reach, my song started to move, him come tell me say "keep going." It's as my song started to blow, he now noticed that this guy don dey my IG, na that time he come reply me. It's at that point I now told him, how far? Let us do song. Then after that, we entered studio, came out with "Benin Boys".

Shallipopi was then asked "Apart from Rema, who else's DMs did you enter before you blew?" to which Shallipopi revealed:

SHALLIPOPI: You know say you as upcoming, you go enter everybody DM. You go enter DM of anybody you feel fit elevate you. You understand? When you be upcoming, you enter DMs. But when you now reach there, people will now be entering your DMs.

The questioning continued, and Shallipopi was asked "All the people you messaged, before you blew, did any of them answer you?" to which he responded:

SHALLIPOPI: People no know you, how they wan take answer you? People no know you, them no go answer you na. I'm not really there with them on their phone. But at that time, when I never big, all the people I messaged, nobody answered me. Nobody go reply na, nobody go answer you. See ehn, if person no know you, them no go answer you.

Finally, he was asked "When they did not answer you, did you feel bad?" to which Shallipopi responded saying:

SHALLIPOPI: You no go feel bad. You can't feel bad, because they don't know you. I don't know how to explain. They don't know you. Celebrities don't know you. Like celebrities get everything them dey do for life. They have their own business they're attending to. Like, if they no know you, they no really know you. Wetin them need to dey form for? They don't know you. People wey them know, them dey talk to them na. So if person no know you, they no really know you na.
