How does red light therapy benefit you?
100 Days with Red Light Use

I'd want to share with you the reasoning for my virtually daily use of red light therapy over the past year. I've given a lot of things a shot, but just a handful have stuck. Even fewer things have made it into my regular rotation, but red light treatment is one among them. After learning how it functioned and experiencing its benefits firsthand, I made it a point to incorporate it into my regular routine.
I'm writing this piece because I think it's one of the most misunderstood health interventions that might help a lot of people, and I want more people to have access to this information.
Just to be clear, this is not intended to be medical advice. This is for informational purposes only; please consult your doctor before starting any new treatment. So, let's get started with the first thing that piqued my curiosity.
Energy is priority one. Red light therapy is effective because it has a bioactive effect. I can't seem to find my phone. Please allow me to demonstrate. When light is transmitted through the skin, the red wavelengths are the ones that make it into the cell. When red light enters a cell, it triggers a chemical reaction and begins altering cellular processes within the mitochondria.
Let's hear it from the expert.
To explain how red light treatment works, I consulted Ari Whitton, the foremost specialist in the field.
Almost every one of our body's billions of cells gets their energy from mitochondria. So, anything that encourages mitochondria to generate more energy has the potential to benefit not just those particular tissues, but the entire body. Everything in your body needs mitochondria to function, whether it's your muscles, brain, heart, bones, ligaments, skin, or hormone glands. Therefore, if the mitochondria in that cell are creating more energy, the cell will function and do its function better.
I've exhausted every possibility. I've been doing a lot of different things to try and boost my stamina. That's why I started thinking about how to improve my sleep so much. Red light therapy's positive effects on my energy and mood kicked in almost immediately, and have continued to get stronger with repeated use.

Red light therapy has positive effects.
The other area where I've found red light treatment to be useful is in speeding up the healing process after muscle damage. Recently, within the last year, I've made it a priority to incorporate strength training into my daily routine. I've noticed that the more effort I put into my workouts, the more my muscles hurt the next day. Muscle discomfort following a particularly hard lift can leave me feeling exhausted, and this means that I need additional time to rest and recuperate. Therefore, I immediately employ red light therapy.

The method by which this effect is produced is a change from an inflammatory to an anti-inflammatory phenotype. Thirdly, we have a mechanism known as retrograde signaling. It changes the way genes are expressed, to put it simply. Genes implicated in inflammation are selectively turned off by red and near-infrared light, while growth and repair genes are activated.
For instance, it promotes skin collagen formation by increasing growth factors. It promotes muscle growth and regeneration by elevating IGF-1 levels in the muscle. Both nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor are boosted in the brain. It promotes the growth of hormone-secreting glands by activating local growth factors.
How does the red light function?

We're all fighting inflammation to some extent, so this is fantastic news. I get really pumped up about the prospect of stacking benefits if I can uncover therapies or wellness practices that help lessen that inflammation.
Hormetic stressors at the level of the skin include red, near-infrared, and ultraviolet radiation. They induce a short-term increase in free radicals, which, when in high enough concentrations, might be harmful. We now know a great deal more about free radicals and reactive oxygen species than we did back then. The body uses them as signals to encourage mitochondria to expand and strengthen, so we now know they aren't all negative.
Hormetic stressors include physical activity, for instance. Hormetic stresses, such as brief increases in free radicals caused by heat exposure like saunas, cold baths, ice baths, cold showers, and breath-holding techniques, prompt the cell and the mitochondria to react by becoming stronger. Lifting weights has the similar effect, encouraging muscle growth. These hormetic stressors work directly on our mitochondria, encouraging them to bulk up so that they can generate more energy and better withstand future stresses.
Is It Real or a Hoax?

Red light treatment will have varying degrees of intensity for different people; some will feel profound changes while others would feel little to nothing. That's why I think there's some skepticism in the market about how effective red light treatment actually is. It's a con for some, while others question why everyone isn't doing it because they've had no experience and think it's a fraud. That sounds very similar to what I was thinking.
Whether or not the effects of red light treatment are seen by the patient is irrelevant. Someone can eat blueberries a hundred times and not notice a difference, just as there is solid evidence linking blueberry consumption to neuroprotective effects and a reduced occurrence of numerous neurological illnesses. They were still affected by the blueberries. Whether or not they saw an increase in their muscle mass or a change in their weight on the scale, exercise still had an effect. Even if they didn't realize it, meditation was still helping them become more mindful, focused, and relaxed.
This night, I slept better than usual.
The sleep app is the most recent one that has piqued my interest. Ari informed me of recent research showing that exposure to red and near-infrared light can increase cellular melatonin production. There are several things I do to ensure a restful night's sleep, and if you haven't seen my course "The Sleep Advantage," I highly recommend doing so.

For this reason, I also incorporate the red light therapy panel into my regimen every day. Perhaps you're wondering, "Hey, why don't more people know about this? How come this hasn't caught on?" Yes, I was wondering the same thing. So I inquired of Ari, and this is what he told me:
A few obstacles have gotten in the way. One is a mental roadblock. Take sauna treatment as an illustration. There is a mountain of research demonstrating the sauna's efficacy in warding off cardiovascular illness, neurological disorders, and depression. If saunas are so helpful, then why don't psychiatrists and psychologists recommend them? That's because it falls outside the scope of traditional medical training.
Why haven't more of us tried it?
The other is that this is state-of-the-art research that only the most successful athletes, businesspeople, and CEOs are using. Unfortunately, this field of study has been overlooked. The amount of focus on this substance would be ridiculous if it were shown to have all these effects. It would break all records for pharmaceutical sales. It would be the gold standard, and everyone would be on it.
Normal people would give you a strange look if you said, "Hey, I want you to take this big light panel and go sit in front of it." One is widely accepted in society while the other is not, and this has significant implications for how people think and what drives them to take action. It's strange that people will go out of their way to acquire a light fixture, but they'll happily pop medications all day long.
I also asked Ari for his input on the best electronic devices on the market. Since he is an advisor for Scienlodic Co, which he mentioned in the book, I made the decision to collaborate with them. I really value Ari's opinion, which is why I agreed to collaborate with them. I also enjoy them because their costs are lower than those of many other popular brands. And if you use the coupon code "M661G4GVTBKX" on their website, you can get 15% off your order, no matter what size you purchase.
