Tasawur, Sajid, and Nasir were close friends. Nasir had joined the college only two months earlier and soon developed a friendship with Tasawur and Sajid. Nasir belonged to a middle-class family and was a well-mannered, kind-hearted boy. No student in the class had any complaint against him. However, Sajid and Tasawur often called him stingy.
Sajid and Tasawur spent most of their pocket money on samosas, chana chaat, and other fried snacks. Nasir usually did not go with them to eat such things. Because of this habit, they assumed that Nasir was miserly and often made fun of him.
When this matter came to the attention of Sir Khalid, he gently advised them not to mock anyone. He explained that Nasir might have some personal reason for not spending money the way they did. He also reminded them that fried foods were unhealthy and that avoiding them was not a bad habit.
Despite this advice, Sajid and Tasawur remained curious. They wanted to know where Nasir spent his pocket money. Together, they made a plan to secretly find out what Nasir did with the money he saved.
One day, after college hours, Sajid and Tasawur followed Nasir from a distance on their motorcycles. Nasir stopped outside a small, run-down house and went inside. After a short while, Sajid and Tasawur arrived there as well and peeped through the door. Inside, they saw a sick young man sitting on a charpai with his elderly mother. Nasir was sitting nearby on another charpai.
Sensing their presence, Nasir invited Sajid and Tasawur inside. The old woman then explained the situation. A few days earlier, her son had been injured in an accident and was unable to work. Nasir was her son’s friend and regularly helped them by giving money for household expenses.
Hearing this, Sajid and Tasawur felt deeply ashamed of themselves. They realized how wrong they had been in judging Nasir. Instead of being stingy, Nasir was actually sacrificing his comforts to help a needy family. They felt proud of Nasir and immediately apologized to him for calling him miserly.
They also made a firm decision to change their own behavior. They resolved to save some of their money and help people who were in need, just like Nasir did.
When Sir Khalid later came to know the truth about Nasir, he praised all three boys and appreciated their intention to help others. At the same time, he gently advised Nasir that it was also important to occasionally enjoy simple moments with friends. Balance, he explained, was the key to a healthy and happy life.
After that, Nasir and his friends developed a better understanding of one another. They sometimes enjoyed snacks together and also continued helping the poor. Sajid and Tasawur no longer called Nasir stingy. Instead, they proudly referred to him as their great friend.
The story shows that people with compassionate hearts are truly noble. We should never judge others without knowing their circumstances. True greatness lies in kindness, understanding, and helping those in need.
