Golden Goddess

Creation of Joy

GOLDEN GODDESS

Creating is my happy place so I choose to be there all the time. Using scissors, shears or snips runs in my family’s heritage (we are cut from the same cloth) and it is a daily romance with my Fiskars, cutting a new creation. I come from a legacy of creative artists, performers and designers. Using scissors is vital to my craft and creativity, to create joy and inspiration within others and yourself. Using a pair of shears or scissors is like having a weapon or ammunition for creativity and creating happiness within. The joy one gets from making something with you own hands is priceless. You can easily do it with a clip, snip, or flick of your fingers. Just like snapping your fingers in magic, creating art just happens… I like to use my scissors in many different facets as a fashion designer, makeup artist, creator and fabricator. I like to create things from scratch completely out of my imagination. I enjoy handcrafting using Fiskars scissors as the tools to the various techniques I have mastered. I allowed myself the freedom to cut anything or any type of material ranging from leather, vinyl, fabric, paper, foils, feathers, hair, plants, and flowers. I like to utilize many types of techniques.

My inspiration is grounded in my family. My grandmother used scissors to cut various materials like moss twine and foams to add as additional textures to her artistic paintings. My mother constantly designed her own costumes and outfits for performances and her routines.

I used scissors to create all sorts of wild and amazing things, costumes, props or apparel. I like things that shine. I like things that look wild or wet. I like things that have texture. I need something sharp that can cut through with precision my materials or mediums so I can create to my fullest imagination and desires. I can reach my fullest potential as an artist with scissors. I would not be able to create if I did not have a sharp pair of shears to match my sharp creative and ambitious mind. When I use Fiskars it’s not just for creating, its part of my heritage; its part of who I am and part of how I create.

I created an entire costume and performance set with scissors, shears, blades, and sewing machines. The inspiration was a gold feminine goddess. I hand cut all of the pieces and used many different products listed above. Even the stencils for the body painting on the pictured model were hand cut.

I hand made every single charm, trinket, garment piece, filament, attachment and sticker on this entire outfit and set design. The design included pattern making and assembly and application. I used gold, brass, wire, metallic leathers, vinyl, sequins, glitter, and feathers. You name it I was working with it. I have to cut with precision in order to get my vision to come to reality. I would not have been able to do that if I did not have a reliable sharp pair of amazing scissors to fullfill every craft. I want to share with you the Golden Goddess; she cuts through all the illusions that we create for ourself.

I used multi faceted techniques: visual design and set design, fashion design, costume design, jewelry design, body painting, makeup artistry, nail and hair design, painting, theatrical prop design and procurement of props.

Set Design: Goddess wings, large fans hand made out of peacock feathers, green leaf showgirl fans, hand dyed and made from pompas grass leaves. Black aurora borealis feather demonic wings are the last layers of flight under the gold arms. Golden painted mannequin arms all displayed as large goddess wings. Hand painted elk horns to complete these flying goddess antennae.

Set Backdrop: White chiffon drapes sewn with gold and silver sequins increasing in size and grouping density fading from one edge to the other. Chains and Antique locks ranging from years 1750-1950 all acquired for this scene.

Antique Locks & Chains & Bones: Loaned for this photo-shoot from an antique collector.

Costume: Hand made and custom designed and hand sewn “gold cannabis leaf sequins” belly dance bustier top and shimmer belt, embroidered with gold lamè lace and golden trinkets and charms with layers of gold chains. A long fabric Sequin flowing skirt and netting sheer modesty skirt.

Headdress: Glitter vinyl intricately cut out in a large maple and cannabis leaf design with 3D accessorized floral applique earpieces. Each leaf has in Gold shiny veins that are heat transfer applied to the glitter vinyl leafs. Chains trinkets and bells were intricately decorated across the points of leafs weaving a jingling web above her crowed head.

Jewelry: Gold chain necklace with antique and rare lock and lockets. Large Swarovski crystal earring and necklace with topaz and colorado accented Swarovski crystals. Custom cuffs designed and die cut faux leather vinyl; lace cannabis leaf cuffs with jingle gold bells.

Makeup: Custom made peacock eyelashes and eyebrows, hand glued and curled and cut to fit the animalistic look of the goddess. Gold and black smokey- eye makeup and neon purple and pink lips to accent her wild hair.

Hair and Nails: Long curved gold antiqued and crystal nails with ombre green moss painted tones with wrapped wire attachment. Neon purple wavy locks with bangs. Hair tresses were teased and maximized fullness.

Body painting: Legs, arms and body all painted with gold luster body paint. The leaf and vein design had shimmer green leaf edges dusted the entire body of the goddess like a glistening gold plant skeleton.
