Nollywood actress Funke Akindele is the current reigning box office queen after having smash after smash movie at the Nigerian cinemas raking over 1 billion naira for two consecutive movies so far A Tribe Called Judah and Everybody Loves Jenifa. With such success also comes mounting pressure and an expectation people have of her. However, in a new interview with TVC's Your View ladies, Funke Akindele opens up about how she's actually dealing with this and give tips on navigating pressure, building confidence, and more.

During her interview, Funke Akindele was asked "The pressure of being a certain way because you're in the public eye—how does that get to you?" to which she said:

FUNKE AKINDELE: I do not want to be a certain way because I'm in the public eye. I want to be comfortable in my skin. I want to be comfortable in what I'm wearing. I want to look beautiful, confident—that is very important for me. So I prioritize that first. I build my confidence in whatever I wear, however I look. That is number one for me.

So I'm not doing it because I have to do it the way you want me to be, you understand? That's why I'm here right now.

"Your profile sounds so intimidating, but you're very natural. What part does humility play in confidence?"

FUNKE AKINDELE: Humility plays a lot—a lot. When you talk about humility, it doesn't mean you have to be dumb, a pushover—no. You have to know who you are, your worth. And you know, this also goes with confidence. When you're humble, it opens doors for you.

You can be confident and humble—it's very important for me.

"You're a woman that works so hard. Please talk to us about the importance of self-care as a hardworking woman juggling so many roles."

FUNKE AKINDELE: You know, we talked about confidence just now. And how do you build your confidence? By loving yourself, caring about yourself, believing in who you are, knowing your worth. Like, I'm looking so good—cleaned up, my hair is beautiful, well-braided, my makeup is beautiful, my jewelry—it builds my confidence. And whenever I care for myself, I look good. I can walk into any room. I can speak to anybody.

So it's very important for every woman out there to take good care of themselves. It's very, very important. And in all my content, you see that I always talk about this. It's very important. And that is why I'm representing this kind of brand that celebrates and promotes confidence and self-love.

Taking care of myself—my mental health, my physical health—is very important. It is very, very important. Protecting my space, making sure everything around me is positive—the daily affirmation is very important.

I am beautifully, fearfully, and wonderfully made.

Thank God for my late mom. You know, she taught me all that. So that has helped me over the years.
