From Being an Amputation Candidate to Healing: Mwanamisi’s Unforgettable Journey!

Overcoming Odds: Mwanamisi's Incredible Recovery

By Juma KillaghaiPublished 2 years ago 4 min read

It was in the evening when my mobile phone rang. I took the call. There was a woman on the other end. She introduced herself saying her name was Mwanamisi Hamisi and was calling from Mwanza city.

‘’Okay. What can I do for you Mwanamisi?’’ I asked.

‘’I called to thank you! You saved my leg from been amputated’’ she said

I was confused. I didn’t know what she was talking about. I thought maybe it was a case of mistaken identity and told her so.

‘’No, I am not mistaken. You are Doctor Juma, no?’’ She insisted.

Basically, I am not a medical doctor, but a lot of people like to call me that. In a way they are right. To them a doctor is anyone who can cure some diseases, regardless of where he/she is formally trained or not. As an organic natural products research chemist and a certified nutritionist, I know some things about diseases and how to treat them using natural products formulations. Unwilling to let this knowledge go to waste, in 2012 I started an alternative medicine practice. People started calling me ‘doctor’ and it was too cumbersome to correct them.

‘’I am Juma Killaghai, yes!’’ I spoke

‘’Precisely, you the one I wanted to thank’’ She answered.

Still puzzled, I said

‘’But I don’t understand. How did I save your leg from getting amputated when we have never even met?’’

‘’Let me explain’’ she said and added

‘’My brother-in-law brought me some herbal medicine from you. His name is Juma Hassan. Probably you know him. He also lives in Dar es Salaam’’

‘’I know a guy by that name. However, I am not sure if he is the one you are referring to’’ I said.

‘’ He must be the one. He told me that you know each other.’’ She insisted.

I thought I remembered. Some three months back an acquaintance by that name came to my practice and asked me if I had any product that was good for a diabetic person. I asked him if he was diabetic but he refuted, saying that he wanted the product for his sister-in-law who was at Mwanza.

‘’I have a product we call ‘Haiiba Glucomaster’. It can’t cure diabetes but can help a lot’’ I told him.

The guy purchased the product and left. It never occurred to me that I will get some wonderful feedback from that encounter.

Having remembered the incidence clearly, I asked Mwanamisi to tell me everything.

‘’ You see, I was diabetic. There was an ugly ulcer on the big toe of my right leg to the extent that the bone was exposed! Treatment had failed and doctors said the only option was to amputate the foot. To make matters worse I had another ugly ulcer on the sole of my left foot. It was horrible because it went deep. It was something like two inches deep!

‘’I was very worried that I might end up loosing both my feet. Fortunately, God decided to spare me because out of nowhere my brother-in-law visited me and asked me to try some medicine he brought with him. It was wonderful! In a few days I noticed that both ulcers were healing, with new tissue growing. Half way through the recommended doze the two ulcers were completely healed.

I was utterly shocked. I tried to process what Mwanamisi had told me but I couldn’t believe it. In the end I asked

‘’Did you say you were diabetic before?’’

‘’Yes! But now I believe I am cured! I have done blood glucose tests many times but results are the same. My blood glucose level is within range’’ she said emphatically.

‘’That is good. Very good indeed. However please continue taking care. I hope you are not slaking on dietary guidelines for diabetics?’’ I cautioned.

‘’ Doctor, you don’t believe me? I told you I am cured! I have even got my old job back. You see, I am a security guard. I left my job because I could not put on boots due to the ulcers I had. Now everything is back to normal. Actually, as we are speaking, I am on duty with my brand-new boots on! I am eating the old foods I used to eat. Rice, bread, buns, etc. I am feeling great!’’

I shrugged. In this world strange things happen. Although I believed Mwanamisi, I didn’t dare to believe that her healing was due solely to our product. I was intrigued by how Mwanamisi got the ulcers that almost had her foot amputated, especially the one she said was on the sole of her left foot. I asked how she ended up with the ulcers.

‘’One day I was cooking. I was bare foot. I stepped on a piece of burning charcoal with my left foot, but I didn’t notice at the time because my feet were so numb! The hot charcoal burned through the sole of my foot and buried itself inside. I only noticed when I was taking a bath sometime later. The other ulcer was just a normal injury that just got worse because it could not respond to treatment’’

I was thoroughly flabbergasted. For lack of something more appropriate to say, I asked

‘’Mwanamisi, can I share your story with others?’’

‘’Of course! If they don’t believe it just give them my number!’ She answered cheerfully.
