Fixing our history chapter by chapter
Let me ask you all a question, how would you feel if a stranger comes into your home on a regular afternoon, chooses to stay at your place, uses all your groceries and toiletries ? A while later, they make decisions to renovate your whole house to their taste and comfort. Would you wait or raise your voice?

The individual is the social unit on which humanity's communal superstructure is supported, both in the beginning and end. As a result, society is the vehicle for man to validate his worth. (Godoy, 2018) The necessity for a person to exist in society is not dictated by the worldly goods that must be acquired to survive but rather by accomplishing the moral goods required for its manifestation. (Godoy, 2018) Education is recognized as the great equalizer (InStride, 2021), but this promise of equality cannot be realized when inherent inequality occurs inside educational systems.
Initially, Indigenous peoples and Europeans in Canada had ties built on trust, equality, and reciprocity, which regrettably remodelled owing to ownership and resource appropriation. However, when such a mutually beneficial relationship benefits one group of people more than the other, problems of human dignity, equality, and rights are frequently jeopardized.
Colonialism is the interaction between an indigenous population with a minority of conquerors. The colonizers make and enforce strategic choices impeding the colonized people's lives to pursue objectives that are frequently self-beneficiary. The colonizers reject cultural compromises with the colonial people because they are empowered to exercise power and their superiority and supreme mandate.
It is thus critical for every nation to not only fight back but moreover accept the tragedy, educate people, and establish methodologies for integration.
Indigenous peoples' health and well-being are founded in a unique relationship between the people, the land, and the traditions and languages that link us to the land. For Indigenous children, in particular, their sense of who they are and their links to Indigenous ways of knowing and being in the world are inextricably linked to their early life experiences.
Understanding oneself, both individually and as part of a group, is a lifelong journey that begins at birth.
I must consider what it means to be culturally appropriate. As a non-Indigenous educator who was only exposed to this terminology when I arrived in Canada to study, I will embrace this call in various ways.
I recognize that I will work toward reconciliation in early childhood education through partnerships and discourse with families and colleagues, through listening and acknowledging. The sole reason for choosing the before is to provide children with a safe and healthy environment where they feel respected and understood. In order to achieve an inclusive environment, it becomes necessary to look at the development of the child from a holistic perspective. When their viewpoints are heard, society's future is also shaped, bringing in the necessary delayed changes.
Secondly, when feasible, the teaching, learning, and speaking of Indigenous languages should be encouraged so that children can be exposed to and exist in an environment that promotes their participation. In this manner, I as an educator, am also validating them. We must challenge our preconceptions and end behaviours that have disadvantaged Indigenous children and families. We shall learn about the objectives of parents for their children by engaging in discussion with them.
Third, to teach children about our past via activities and instil l in them the virtue of preferring everyone over someone. Lastly, we should also seek and embrace community engagement; rather than working as a means to an end, raising our children should be viewed as a partnership. In this way, they are instilled with a strong feeling of belonging. This might be accomplished through events, webinars, and communication with one another—parental and relative visits to the centre on a regular basis, as well as volunteering.
In the end, I would like to quote Edward Kennedy, "What divides us pales in comparison to what unites us."
P.S -If you have some spare time, please do watch a video I made for spreading awareness on one of the many issues faced by our people even in the present time.
