Finding Me

A Never Ending Journey

Wise words were told to me, “look up”, never down.

“There is no future on the ground.”

Yet when you think about those words, like a seed planted in the ground. Our roots all started somewhere, we only started to grow then, from there we bloom.

Question Of Who Am I?

I am a senior now, I know it every day. Yet that is a good thing, I may move slower, take naps in the day but once in awhile the youth in me will surprise you.

I was out and about shopping, the two step shuffle came on and I just started to dance. It wasn’t long I had a employee dance beside me. Music always makes me want to dance, it brings me joy anywhere I am.

I can remember that very first date with my wonderful husband. On Valentines Day, almost 41 years ago. I can remember the song, the moment we danced, better yet I had never in my whole life enjoyed myself with anyone like I did him. Later, snowball fights outside the dance hall.

I feel this night was the key to unlocking many wonderful moments in my life, both with him and the beginning of finding out who I really was.

Confidence

I know confidence is found within yourself, how you feel about you and others. For so long I had no idea what it felt like to be independent, outgoing and enjoying life. I really thank my husband for helping me on that journey. Yet I now (never before), learned to take ownership for myself. Who I was, where I wanted to go in life but most of all “finding me”.

My passion for my work, learning new technology, yes the first computers was amazing. It simplified the work load and the years I worked with my co-workers,(my good friends) was the best.

I went on from there to work for another computer company , another job doing accounting for a computer supplier from home.

Happily married, both working at great jobs and soon to purchase our first home. Yes a beautiful home (over 125 years old), we had our work to do on it and it was fun. We are the best team ever ( my husband and I), we even did all the electricity together. ( the key to be you is to find the things you enjoy doing)

So Who Am I?

I am Cathy, that’s a start. I shared how my husband was the beginning of a turning point for me ,yet like everyone our journey in life is up to us and sadly up to situations beyond our control.

I have had serious and sad things happen to me growing up. At the age of six I began writing. “ I wrote to cope”. Every day in a journal I would write details of events that was never to be shared with anyone. Hidden away for only me. It was the best coping mechanism ever.

At the age of seven I became a true author. I wrote about an owl. I was awarded a large sum of money and autographed the books at our Art Gallery. My real writing all began there at a young age and I continue to write and love it.

What I hid in my diary (all those years ago) have been shared. As horrifying as every entry made, it brought me hope to go on and learn wonderful exciting things.

Now my quote is,

I once wrote to cope.

Now I write to bring others hope.

From Writing To Creating

A wonderful talent I learned from my mom ,was being creative. Anywhere from crocheting, knitting sewing and now I create beautiful cards.

I am always willing to learn new things, see new places but to be honest my greatest joy is being me, better yet being a wife, a mother of two amazing adults and of course being a grandma. These are the greatest blessings I could ever ask for.

My sisters and their spouses, my nieces and nephews and of course my husbands family all bring me much love and joy. Of course my wonderful friends.

Creating, especially the cards I make fulfills my heart , I love sending them out to others. The joy of letting others know your thinking of them is wonderful.

I struggled with perfection, only from the past. Yet what really is perfect?

Life, love and happiness, also good health. When you have all of that you are blessed. Even a little of that is what I have learned is wonderful.

Things don’t bring you joy, but they are nice to have. Food in your cupboards is a necessity. Learning the difference, believing that you can try new things, learn new things even if it isn’t perfect, you did it. My words I use daily, “try and never give up”. Don’t allow others to take away who you are, who you want to be. Also learn it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you can look up and go forward.

The Journey

I hope to live to be a hundred, still do the two step shuffle. Watch my husband take his retirement, find things he loves to do. Still sneak away together and travel back to the mountains, the islands in the south.

To watch our family grow ,but most of all be happy. To find their joys in life. To have better opportunities for themselves and their families.

I hope to be able to be there for others in what ever way it may be. From a simple card to words of love and kindness.

To sip a glass of wine or a beer or two. To watch hockey or even go to a game or two.

For now, Cathy is who I am and who I will always be. Awaiting to live life with lots of opportunities , but most of all create. A better world for you and I. I hope you will join me on a journey we have yet to take.

Hi, I’m Cathy.
