Finding Home: A Single Mum's Journey of Faith in a Housing Crisis
In the midst of the search!

Imagine standing on the edge of uncertainty, looking for a place to call home, but finding nothing but closed doors. This is the reality for many single mums caught in the whirlwind of the current housing crisis. For those who lean on their faith in Christ Jesus, this journey, while daunting, becomes a testament to trust, perseverance, and divine provision.
The Struggles of Finding a Home
The housing crisis has gripped communities, leaving countless families scrambling for affordable shelter. For single parents, particularly single mums, the challenge is even more acute. With only one income, limited support, and the ever-looming responsibility of providing stability for our children, the pressure can feel overwhelming.
As a homeschooling mum, I juggle work, teaching, and the relentless search for a new home. Every viewing is a battlefield of competition, every application a reminder of financial constraints. Yet, amidst these trials, my story is one of resilience fueled by faith.
With each passing day, I face the harsh realities of limited availability and skyrocketing rents. The strain of balancing expenses—food, school supplies, and now higher rents—can create a sense of desperation. However, in my quiet moments of prayer, I find hope, a reminder that I am not alone in this battle.
Leaning on Faith
During these trying times, faith becomes a lifeline. The Bible offers solace and reassurance. Philippians 4:19 resonates deeply: "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." For me, this verse is more than words; it is a promise that sustains me.
Each day, I turn to prayer and scripture, drawing strength and comfort from God's promises. The world outside might be turbulent, but within my heart, there's a peace that surpasses all understanding—a peace rooted in faith.
Faith isn't just a passive belief but an active force in my life. It influences my decisions, shapes my perspective, and provides a foundation of hope. Even when prospects seem bleak, I lean into my faith, trusting that God's provision is on the way.
The Divine Timing
One of the hardest lessons for any believer is trusting in God's timing. Jeremiah 29:11 offers profound reassurance: "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
For me, this means accepting that the right home, at the right price, will come at the right time. It's a lesson in patience and surrender, acknowledging that God's plan often differs from my own, but is always for my good.
There are moments of doubt, times when the weight of uncertainty feels unbearable. In these times, I find solace in prayer, pouring out my fears and anxieties to God. And each time, I feel a sense of reassurance, a gentle reminder that I am in His hands.
While faith is foundational, I understand the need for practical steps. I diligently search listings, attend viewings, and fill out applications. My faith drives my actions, propelling me forward even when the path is steep.
Networking among my sisters in Christ for prayer support proves invaluable. They provide support, leads, and at times, housing solutions. This community underscores that God's provision often arrives through His people.
Persistence remains crucial. I remain positive, driven by my faith. Every setback fuels renewed determination, every rejection carries the hope of an acceptance ahead. My faith imbues me with the strength to persevere.
I am not alone in my journey. Many single mums have experienced the miraculous provision of God in their housing searches. Their testimonies are powerful reminders of Hebrews 11:1: "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
These stories inspire and uplift, demonstrating that when one door closes, God frequently opens another, often in the most surprising ways.
Trusting in the Unseen
Faith requires trusting in the unseen, believing in God's promises even when evidence seems scarce. These testimonies bolster my faith, reminding me that God's provision is real and often just around the corner.
Gratitude is a crucial practice. Amid challenges, I consciously thank God for my blessings. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 urges: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
Looking back on my journey, I witness growth and lessons. Each trial bolsters my faith, each obstacle imparts resilience. The tough journey underscores God's faithfulness.
My tale centers on faith, perseverance, and divine provision. Navigating the housing crisis, with its struggles and victories, reinforces reliance on God's promises. To single mothers everywhere, I convey: have faith in God, persevere, and trust in His provision.
If you're a single mum facing similar challenges, share your story. Join a community of believers who support and uplift each other. Lean on your faith and remember that God's promises are steadfast. Together, we can navigate these turbulent times, finding strength and hope in Christ Jesus.
