So much of the “I” we know comes from information ingrained into the subconscious during a hypnosis like state during our childhood. Awestruck by pure possibility and curiosity, we are innocently exploring life itself while our trusted environment (usually with good intention) limits the imagination due to such a suggestive state of being. As we grow older, life feels so confusing with these limitations. The true self is boxed up in what both everyone we know and ourselves have come to know as “insert your name here”.
Although our learned values may prove as an excellent boost start for life, it certainly does not sum up the whole self. Many prove quite content living a simple life whilst following through with traditions passed down. This proves that there is nothing wrong with staying a product of our environment. However, what if there is more to the equation. Perhaps there is much more to be discovered. All one must do is jump into the abyss of nothingness awaiting right outside the village.
Perhaps it is the need for variety that causes some to fly the coop almost immediately upon completion of grade school. The beauty of life is that it’s ever changing and contains limitless flavors. Symmetry can be pleasing, but the coexistence of nothing but redundancy would eventually lead towards extinction. This is why racism is pointless. But, I digress. Bringing about a completely different nature upon ourselves; decorating the spirit with completely new colors will lead towards an even higher high on life. This does not mean we must rod ourselves of the old, but instead to broaden the spectrum in which the new can now fit. In all honesty we are physical representations of infinity; therefore we can become anything.
Imagine the ultimate change. Start fresh. Leave the life we know and move to a new land. Forced to learn a new language(most nations know at least some English), different culture, working a new job, and not even an acquaintance, some of the most profound illusions of life would cease to exist. The preservation of self and our comfort loving egos are put to the ultimate test. On the other side? FREEDOM! Those who survive would find a completely new side to themselves and open up room in their minds to breathe. We could then distinguish between the learned qualities we wished to keep and those to discard of.
Life is so similar and yet so different around the world. Some places look almost identical to others half way across the world! Others contain completely unique eco systems. Aside from terrain, what makes an even bigger difference in location? It’s gotta be culture! A tree is not a tree. It simply is... A mountain is not only a mountain! In the country of Georgia it is a mta, or მთა! In English, the phrase, “I love you”, is usually left up to the listeners discretion; however in Spanish, there are different loves such as te quiero, me gustas et te amo. To explore a new culture means to break free from a boxed way of being. Nothing exists as one specific thing, everything being both limitless and left up to the imagination.
Sometimes life is just fine the way it is and nothing necessarily need be changed. However, when the ball is kept rolling and different flavors are mixed, new flavors emerge and life continues to deliver. This is only necessary and need not happen for every single one of us because we need those who will preserve culture and maintain it as well. Everything seems to build upon itself. Life could have gone in countless different directions but here we are. Evolution is natural so it needn’t be forced. Therefore, the only message I want to convey here is that if as an individual you feel called towards the abyss....jump.
