Tales of Adventure; Mysterious Adventure.

Elodie daydreamed of the moon. A wispy, blonde little girl the age of 12 with grand dreams and even more elaborate daydreams. She told Alice that she knew one day she would launch into space and float around like a tiny feather that jumps out of your comforter when you jump into bed and your mother kisses your forehead goodnight after the nightly narration of your favorite homemade saga “2B the surf-mat.”

Now Elodie never just settled for any simple night time story before bed. Her dad and her would come home from surfing all day in the warm California sun, delighted in the elation of the salty breeze flying across her body as she zipped down the face of a green-blue barrel. Elodie would always be so wrapped up in energetic emotion after her and her dad went to their secret surfing spot after school. She would run home after school, throw on her bright blue bathing suit, and pick up her most prized possession and closest confidant - 2B the yellow and blue canvas surfmat. Oh how she would ride it in and out all day in the glimmering, sun-soaked sea. It filled Elodie with pure elation. Every evening when she and her dad came home from surfing their secret spot, Elodie would take extra care to shower herself and 2B with warm soft water. As she rinses the salty sea off of 2B she always wonders where he goes when she is studying hard at school...

It was a somber, crisp morning in 1962. Elodie, still 12, was missing the waves and her favorite surfmat. Oh how deep the longing to see the secrets that take place when she is at school. She knew 2B wasn’t any ordinary surf-mat, but a magic one. She knew of it from the stories about 2B the surfmat that her dad would tell her after he tucked her in at night. He would always begin the stories just like this...”Once upon a time. In a far away place in a far away land. There was a blue and yellow surfmat, not just any ordinary surfmat, but a magical one. His name was 2B. Now, 2B loved the sun soaked afternoons on the shore of his favorite secret beach; he loved the sun soaking in as he flew across the warm blue-green waves, the tropical warmth of coconut lingering in the air and the red and pink hibiscus flowers that gently floated across the beach.”

On this particular day, Elodie decided she would sneak away from her classes and try to catch 2B in the act of magic. She snuck past the cafeteria, the old lady Wendy in the parking lot, crawled through the sprawling bushes just outside of her school and took off running as fast as her legs could carry her. When Elodie arrived home, her heart was pounding in her chest. She was filled with joy and excitement, ready to take on her mission to see 2B get up on his very own and float down to the seashore. When she arrived home, she didn’t recognize anything! She was terribly confused. “I must’ve run faster than the speed of light! What is this strange world that is here instead of my very own home?” Elodie peered through the window she knew so well as her living room window. “But, why are the carpets that were always so ruby red now dark forest green? Who are these strange people in my home? Why isn’t Mother here?” Elodie looked down to find a little black notebook. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever found. Leather bound, ivory pages tied with ribbon and a seal on the outside to keep secrets safe. “I must find the owner of this beautiful book. Maybe they will know what happened to our home and to Mother!” Elodie just barely kept herself from opening the pages filled with secrets in this mysterious little black book when a man suddenly sees her peering into what was once her very own living room and yells from inside the window at her to get down quickly! Suddenly, a huge bomb whizzes by and barely just misses Elodie. She screams and runs away as fast as her spindly long legs can carry her. She runs so fast that the light becomes dark, night becomes day and Elodie loses concentration on the world around her. A thick amber colored sky appears overhead, the sun slowly drooping below the skyline. Elodie looks down and sees she is still carrying the mysterious little black book. She decides the best thing she can do now is look for something, perhaps a clue. “Where better to look than this mysterious little black book?”

Elodie’s heart is racing as she peels the cover open. On the first page she sees nothing. She flips wildly through the entire book and finds not one single piece of writing or drawing, no recipes, no songs, no designs, no stories. “Not one single clue,” Elodie cries quietly. Just as she is about to close the little black book one of her tears drops on the first page and she notices ink! “Invisible Ink! Oh, I learned about this when I was reading Harriet The Spy!” Her smile lights up like a thousand diamonds loomed together. Suddenly, there is hope again. Elodie looks closer and deeper into the shimmering, glistening page. She notices a sort of map, but it is a strange one. The key doesn’t measure distance, it measures time.

At this time a bicycle whooshes by, blowing mud all over Elodie and the little black book. “Oh no, the map is disappearing!” She quickly memorizes as much of the map as she can before it’s permanent disappearance. “Well, I believe that I remembered the layout of the map, but the key was so confusing. I’ll have to rack my most creative thoughts up and trying to solve this clue. I just know it in my heart that something was so wrong when I went home to spy on 2B’s secrets and the mysteries that fill my mind all day at school...” she trailed off, lulling into a gentle sleep. The world was vibrant, vivid and surreal in her dreams. But nothing was as surreal as her secret adventure home from school that day.

Chapter 2: Wondrous Ponderousness

Upon her arrival from the departure of sleep Elodie figures out the map! She realizes she must measure the fluid flow of time within the perimeter of the maps layout. Elodie follows the map to a small glowing cavern by the side of the highway. She peers into the cavern and looks for the exact moment when she would be arriving to the place where X marks the spot!

Elodie disappears into an explosive white light. When she opens her eyes she is in a humble book maker’s factory. This factory looked very different from the ones she had visited with her school on field trips. The machines were more elaborate and intricate. Elodie gasps with glee “I must’ve fallen into the future! I must’ve stepped into the exact right place at just the right millisecond!” She doesn’t know it just yet, but Elodie is absolutely correct. She had time traveled to 1997 Milan and ended up in the little black book’s production line. She asks a nearby boy what year it is. He tells her the shocking, yet exciting news! Elodie thanks her new friend Francesco for his insight into where she was spat out.

She feels deeply satisfied because Elodie found a clue! Now, Elodie is a very bright girl, so she finds the exact way to use her little black book of mystery by using the same method that she did to begin her time travel in the first place. Hoping to get home Elodie once again opens the book and flips through the pages looking for any trace of invisible ink. Just as she turns the page, an explosion of bright cream colored light sucks her in, the world turns to a pale orange and yellow tint. “This sensation is so wiggly, so tingly, I feel like jello!” As Elodie’s body morphs through time, light years rewind and she falls at the feet of a intellectual’s dinner party. The year is 1920 and Elodie is in a Paris Cafe with poets, surrealists and her greatest hero- Salvador Dali! As she is wiping the sprinkles of time from her eyes, Dali gives her an assured smile. Naturally, Elodie looks past her embarrassing entry and quickly pinches herself. “Can it be?” She whispers under her breath. “Oui, Elodie. This is the meeting of the surrealists and poets, Welcome. I am Salvador Dali. Won’t you please join our company?” Elodie grins. She sits at a seat next to Dali and explains her predicament. As a surrealist and daydreamer himself, Dali is quick to offer a solution. He reminds her of her magical surfmat 2B! Elodie asks Dali to help her find 2B and Dali gets straight to the task. He opens the mysterious little black book of secrets, with a mysterious smirk, he winks and Elodie is again flying through the fibers of space and time. As she is flying, 2B suddenly picks her up and carries her with his magical powers! She laughs and smiles, 2B dives deep into a quasar with Elodie’s still holding tight! Upon Elodie’s arrival to 1962, she weeps with joy and runs through her kitchen door. “Mother! Dad! I’m home! 2B saved me!” Her dad winks and with a glint in his eye tells his sleepy, sweet Elodie to write it in her journal. Elodie opens the mysterious little black book to write her adventures with 2B down and silently falls into the back panel of the book.

When she wakes up, Elodie is a full grown, gorgeous woman. She feels the love and admiration for her wonderful 2B surfmat stories which warm her heart more than ever. The year is 2020. Elodie picks up her little black book to share her secret magical, mysterious adventures through time with Dali, 2B and the bookmakers factory. It is the modern world, so naturally, Of course, Elodie has a Vocal+ Account. She opens her window, and unlocks her iphone. Elodie sees the Vocal+ MOLESKINE contest posting and the opportunity to share a bit of magic, adventure, mystery and love. She immediately pulls out her mysterious little black book and shares her story. She is rewarded with a massive cash prize of $20,000 for her courage, creativity, insight and Brilliance in time traveling surrealism with her magical best friend. Elodie uses the cash prize to publish her many wonderful adventures with 2B. And they lived happily ever after. The End.
