It started off as a cool new concept to be able to talk to relatives across the ocean in case of emergencies. It took a few minutes instead of waiting days or months for a letter to arrive. Alexander Graham Bell had gifted the world with the ability to stay in touch no matter where you are. But I doubt even he knew to what extent his invention will be able to go. The latest additions of smart phones have taken communication to the next level. The acquirement of cell phone was probably the single most devastating blow to humanity. I would argue it turned us into soul-less entities, changed our existence, and made anything that was related to human obsolete. Everyone is staring at a screen all day, talking to people they do not know. Never in the present moment. It has reshaped the dynamics of families. Moral values, empathy, sympathy, togetherness are all words that are rare now. Not many believe in them, and the millennials have no clue what they even mean. Aldous Huxley put it best, "Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards."

Before the advent of cell phones in everyone’s hands, life was very different and meaningful. People woke up in the morning with a person, an entity to thank, work; to have food to eat, lived for each other, loved hard work, slept peacefully at night. Now everyone is walking around like a zombie with a phone in their hand. They do not care what is in front of them or behind and nothing concerns them unless it appears on the screen. It could be that someone standing right in front of them will be streaming a live video and they will be shocked by it because they see it on their screen not realizing it is occurring right in front of them in real time. This has also led to suppression of consciousness. Where people are so busy scrolling and watching, that they do not have the time to sit down and reflect on all the responsibilities that they are trying to not take care off. How many people who need them, but they do not want to give them their time. So many empty relationships because no one has the patience to build and nurture a relationship. It is easier to scroll and watch strange people do strange things, answer strange calls and talk to people who they will never see again. All while the people who depend on them are suffering. The notion of depending on each other has also been slowly eradicated, and the concept of each man for himself has been popularized, shaming anyone who even tries to ask for help. It is more important to view every single post, answer every single call than to anticipate someone in need and figure out how they can be helped. Let us not forget the selfie!!! The whole new narcissistic self has emerged where everyone is looking in a camera or in a mirror all the time. Everyone is showing off this perfect lifestyle all the time and no one is happy that the other is more perfect than them. Cell phones have set a new standard for humanity that everyone is complying with voluntarily.

This creation has created mindless followers all in their ‘cells’. It has been appropriately named by its’ creators who were very clear of their goals. The leaders are the immoral upper class who work in an insane industry that has already let go of any human moral code of behaviour and are willing to test their limits in everything. The beautiful peaceful life that we once knew that build moral and physical character has been demolished. It has been replaced by this device that controls the human like a robot, constantly bombarding them with temptations and deviations to natural life. Telling them when to wake up, when to sleep, when to eat, when to dance, when to party and when to jump and how many times to jump. Furthermore, it even accompanies the human to the washroom. It is the ultimate violation of a human’s privacy, and the most astonishing part is that the human is completely unaware of what they are willingly allowing this device to do. Families are falling apart. People are struggling alone with their burdens and feeling it is how they are meant to live. Anytime that they would have to reavaluate their lives, is being wasted among the random noise on the phone that offers endless possibilities of entertainment. The one thing it promotes is body health as the body must be working in optimum condition to perform as a good slave. “Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.” - George Orwell
