Come out your comfort zone!

Go for it!

By Aquarian WritesPublished 6 years ago 4 min read

Before quarantine, I found that I lacked female friends. I felt that this was because I didn't go to Uni and had stopped speaking to those I went to school with so making friends was not easy as you can imagine especially at early 20s. I made a few friends along the way here and there however nothing was ever solid, it wasn't the friendship I had craved. I wanted a girl friend to call and gossip, rant and laugh with. A friend who I could go out and have a girls holiday with, you get the gist.

I decided that quarantine was a good time to connect with some new people and hopefully build new friendships so I looked on online on how I could connect with women because I certainly weren't just going to slide into any girls DM (direct message) like a weirdo lol and that's when I found Hey! VINA, a site that I could connect with girls that have similar interests by swiping, at first I didn't know what to expect but I was optimistic so I of course signed and up and started swiping! In my opinion I found that it was a bit hard to connect on Hey! Vina as I don't think there was many members on there so you're limited to an extent but it was cool. I'm not a shy person but I thought how awkward is it to just start a conversation especially with girls now a days (some appear unapproachable) but I went for it and messaged a few ladies.

I exchanged a few conversations but they didn't really go no where so I left the app and decided to move onto Bumble! Which was a great move! Now, you might be familiar with Bumble as a dating app but they also have a function for making friends and also business which I think is quite cool!

Within the first day of using Bumble, I found so much women I could connect with, more conversations were exchanged and I really felt that I could be making friends but then some of the conversations fell flat and started to feel forced, if it was feeling like this online then there would be no doubt that the face to face encounter would be awkward lol. It was funny because some of these girls bio would make them come across as if they were chatty and fun but when messaging there was nothing, it made me question some of girls, like why be on an app and be so dry? What is the point? Are they catfishes? So many questions to ask!

I ended up exchanging numbers with 4 girls who all seemed great on Bumble and have hardly been on the app since, I don't want to have 30 friends, I just want to have 5 friends and that's all.

So out of the 4 girls, I have really been getting to know 2 of them, one who I actually knew without actually knowing, (it's a small world I tell you). I have bonded with these girls over the past 2 weeks, I feel that I have built a bond with both of them differently and I really look forward to meeting them. It may sound a bit silly or too soon but they feel like woman I want to be friends with, woman that I can see myself growing with and I am very thankful that I have connected with them. After quarantine I'm arranging to meet up with them both and I cannot wait because I can see this blossoming into a beautiful friendship. Connecting with these girls during quarantine has been well needed and has helped me get through quarantine, they have opened my eyes to things new things, and have both independently really pushed me to start drawing which will be something good to do to keep me going during lockdown, you never know, I might end up being the next Picasso!

I hope these friendships work out and if they don't then I'll be back with a story time of what went wrong!

The moral of the article I guess is to get out your comfort zone! There is no better time than in quarantine to do something you wanted to do but haven't gotten a chance to do it. Everything is online, from making friends, to making an online business, finding a new hobby, learning to build. The internet has no limits in 2020 so it's only right that we take advantage of what we have!

I hope you decide to get out of your comfort zone during quarantine but stay safe.
