Coldplay's Chris Martin had a near-miss while performing onstage in Australia.

On Sunday, Nov. 3, as the British rock band was finishing up its last of four shows at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium, Martin, 47, was regaling the crowd with some anecdotes about their international Music of the Spheres World Tour when he fell through an open trap door.

In videos of the incident shared on social media, the frontman can be seen walking backwards down a raised runway, speaking to the crowd, when he toppled backwards through the open trap door. The crowd can be heard gasping as some nearby crew members scrambled to help Martin back up.

One fan who captured footage of the incident captioned his video on X (formerly Twitter): "The moment Chris Martin fell through a trap door right in front of me at the #Coldplay concert tonight."

After regaining his footing, Martin told the audience: "That's not planned!"

He also joked, "Holy s---, that was nearly a YouTube moment!" before thanking one of the crew members for catching him.

Coldplay's massive international tour has been running since March 2022 and is currently scheduled to conclude in September 2025 with a 10-day run at London's Wembley Stadium. After their final show in Melbourne, Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion will head to Sydney to finish their Australian leg before moving on to New Zealand.

The record-breaking tour has been a source of many viral moments since it began. An array of special guests have accompanied Coldplay onstage for surprise performances — including Maggie Rogers, Shawn Mendes, Michael J. Fox and more.

This past summer, as the group prepared to play its first of four Dublin concerts in August, Martin even took Coldplay's music out of the stadium for an impromptu performance outside, with several of his “WE PRAY” collaborators.

Appearing on the main street of Grafton in Dublin, Nigerian singer Burna Boy, English rapper Little Simz, Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna and Argentine singer Tini joined Martin for the pop-up performance.

In an Instagram video shared at the time, Coldplay dubbed the evening a “magic moment.”

“WE PRAY. Grafton Street, Dublin,” the band's post said. “Magic moment with @burnaboygram, @littlesimz, @elyanna, @tinistoessel. Thanks to everyone who showed up, and to TikTok for helping to make it happen.”

Coldplay is also preparing to release more new music. In June, the group dropped its 10th studio album, Moon Music, alongside its accompanying single "feelslikeimfallinginlove." Despite the new release and global tour, Martin revealed that Coldplay only plans to release 12 "proper albums" as a band before stepping away from creating fresh material.

"We are only going to do 12 proper albums, and that's real," he said in an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, which debuted in September.

"So if we do something together after that creatively beyond touring, then it'll be something different, or it'll be a side thing, or it'll be a compilation of things we hadn't finished," Martin explained.

then turned his back, striving ˹against the truth˺.

Then he summoned ˹his people˺ and called out,

saying, “I am your lord, the most high!”

So Allah overtook him, making him an example in this life and the next.

Surely in this is a lesson for whoever stands in awe of ˹Allah˺.
