In everyday life, regular vision checks are very important, especially in the context that we are increasingly using electronic devices like phones and computers. Measuring vision at home allows you to easily monitor your eye health without having to visit a clinic. Here are the detailed steps to help you measure your vision at home.

Preparation

Dark Room: First, you need to prepare a suitable space for measuring vision. An ideal space is a dark room to ensure that light does not affect the measurement results. If you cannot create a completely dark room, you can use natural sunlight. To increase accuracy, close the door and cover the windows to limit outside light.

Vision Chart: You will need a vision chart. This can be easily purchased from e-commerce sites, with prices ranging from 50,000 to 80,000 VND. Additionally, some pharmaceutical companies may provide free vision charts if you contact them directly.

Eye Covering Tool: An eye-covering tool is very important, allowing you to accurately measure the vision of each eye without interference. You can use a soft cloth or a similar item to cover an eye.

Conducting the Vision Measurement

Distance: Place the vision chart about 5 meters away from where the person being measured is seated or standing. Ensure that the chart is hung straight and not bent or obstructed.

Covering the Eye: Start by covering the person's left eye. Instruct them to only use their right eye to look at the vision chart.

Reading Characters: Ask the person to start reading the characters on the chart from the top row (the lightest row) to the bottom row (the heaviest row). They should read aloud each character they can see clearly. Observe and record the letters they read from each row.

Evaluating the Results

Once the person has finished reading the letters, write down the results for each row and denote the vision acuity (V).

If they read all the letters in row V = 0.1, their vision will be recorded as 1/10.

If they read all the letters in row V = 0.2, their vision will be 2/10.

If they read all the letters in row V = 2.0, then their vision will be 20/10 — this is the level of vision for individuals with very good eyesight, such as soldiers or sharp shooters.

Good Vision: If the person reads all the letters in row V = 1.0, it means they have 10/10 vision, considered normal and quite good. If they can only read up to row V = 0.6 or 0.7 but not completely, the corresponding vision will be 6/10.

Measuring the Other Eye: After measuring the right eye, you need to repeat the same steps for the left eye. Cover the person's right eye and ask them to read the letters with their left eye. Then, record the results for the left eye similarly to the first measurement.

Conclusion

The recorded parameters will help you better understand the vision condition of yourself or others. If there are signs of poor vision or not meeting the requirements, you should consult an eye specialist for timely treatment.

Measuring vision at home helps you easily monitor any changes in your eyes, allowing you to take appropriate measures when necessary. Remember that, in addition to self-checking, regular examinations by a specialist are also essential to ensure your eye health.
