Bonding Hearts

Moments of Devine

By Sherry jacksonPublished 4 years ago 7 min read

My friend’s invitation to go home with her for a visit was a easy decision to make, thinking it would be a nice relaxing get away from my hectic schedule as a marriage counselor.

To my pleasant surprise it was nothing close to anything I had ever imagined it to be.

When we arrived and her car pulled up in front of this magnificent mansion I looked at her in astonishment.

Welcome to my home, she exclaimed.

She laughed and seem to enjoy the shocked look on my face.

Her mother and dad met us with open arms and after a delicious lunch we climbed up long graceful stairs to our joining bedrooms

We rested and refreshed ourselves.

When it was time for dinner I had nothing that seemed approximate to wear. Fortunately she had many evening gowns just hanging in her closet and told me to choose one to wear. Delighted, yet

I couldn’t decide so she picked one out for me.

Here she said as she hand over to me

a blue gown.

This will match your haunting blue eyes.

It was a dusty blue with a much too daring low neckline and a gorgeous flowing skirt.

I simply loved it.

It made me feel, dainty and glamour at the same time.

When I looked in the mirror I couldn’t believe it was me.

The dinner was like a movie I had seen many time in 1930-40 movies.

There were elegant gowns and tuxs with elegant people in them, all graciously seated together at a long elegant table with lots of lit candles and beautiful flowers.

I looked across the table and a smooth refined gentleman was staring at me. During dinner he didn’t talk much but often looked in my direction.

Suddenly he took his antique wine glass raising it high toasted me and slowly took a sip with his eyes looking deep into mine.

I smiled and toasted him back, taking a sip and then our eyes locked. I turned away and when I looked at him again he was smiling with a knowing look in his eyes.

My friend parents had one of their friends sing after dinner.

I sat in a gorgeous French chair. He came and sat in a chair beside me giving me that sweet smie as he sat down. I smiled back at him.

I turn once to look at him during the performance and I saw he was just looking at me not the singer.

I felt that I was blushing, and turn away pretending I was listening to the singer.

The song filled the air with lyrics of love but I was far away with him. I felt powerless as some enchsntung spell seem to overtake my every senses.

When it was over he stood up watching me as I rose from my chair offered his hand to assist me.

When I put my hand in his my knees almost buckled as I felt a warm sensation go though my body.

Thank you, I replied. We stood there with him holding my hand and both of us starting into each other’s eyes. It was only a second but it seemed like an eternity. I turned and slowly waked away not daring to look back.

That night when my friend snd I had a chance to talk in our bedrooms, I asked her about him.

Oh Jed. She said.

We grew up together. He the only child of our well off neighbors so he just travels dates one girl after another- he has a restless soul. Many have tried to capture him to no avail. Stay away,he will only break your heart.

I went to sleep but his face kept flashing in my mind.

The next day it was bright and sunny.

After having breakfast on the terrace filled with spring flowers I gathered with other for a buffet breakfast.

I gazed over the crowd hoping to see him again. He wasn’t there to my disappointment.

So I went for a walk in the lush green woods beside their house.

There was thousand of Spring flowers danced proudly in the warm breeze as though they were celebrating their triump over the cold winter.

I stop to pick a daffodil when I hear a voice from behind me saying,

There is not a flower that could ever compare to your beauty my lovely lady.

I turned around and Jed was standing close behind me.

Managing to hide my delight and surprise I replied politely,

Why thank you.

I turn to walk away and he catch up with me.

He stroll with me silently down the forest edged trail.

It so besutiful here, I said.

Yes he said looking at me letting me know in his eyes that he wasn’t talking about the forest but it was me he was talking about.

Suddenly a gentle rain shower came out of no where, because I remembered there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.

He grabbed my hand and we ran to a rose covered gazebo.

We paused staring at the rain with the sweet smell of damp scented flower floating in the air and the rain drops slashing down on the foliage and tall green trees.

Then I noticed he had not let go of my hand . Something inside of me didn’t want him to ever let go.

Then a clash of lightening came and I jumped in fright into his arms.

He looked down at me and his lips found mine.

The place seem to whirl around me and it was suddenly surreal and thrilling.

Then the rain stopped as suddenly as it had begun he put his arms around my waist and walked back to the house clinging to each other.. Before we came in sight of the others he quickly grabbed me kissed me passionately then kissed my hand snd went the other way.

Whether I ever saw him again in my heart I wanted that more than anything I knew he had stolen my heart.

I went back to my regular routine of working and casual dating but it all felt so empty and different.

Weeks and then months went by and I still couldn’t get him out of my mind.

My friend announced at one of our girl’s night out that she was engaged. I was so happy for her but couldn’t help wondering if I was ever going to be in her shoes and I began to doubt if I was going to ever see him again.

Her wedding was in the back yard of her parent’s lovely mansion. I thought he would be there and I was so excited. Yet the wedding went on as planned and he was no where no where to be seen.

When I got home I literally threw myself on the bed and cried. Then my cell phone ringed. I wasn’t going to answer it but I didn’t want anyone to know how I felt so I wiped off my tears and said with as normal a voice as I could muster up- hello.

Stella., I hear his voice say my name.

My heart skipped several beats!

Yes, i replied holding my breath.

It so wonderful to hear your voice. I was hoping I would see you at the wedding but my flight got canceled.

May I come up-

Up. I said. Are you down stairs?

Yes he said.

I - well I just couldn’t stop thinking about you and Carol gave me your phone number and address—I hope you don’t mind me been so bold—

Wait I said. Stay right there!

I threw on my coat rushed out my door and ran to the elevator got on and pushed the button finding it hard to even breath.

The ride down seemed to take forever!

When the door open I saw him standing at the front desk. He looked at me

We both ran toward toward each other and there in the lobby with many strangers surrounding us, we kissed!

It was a long passionate kiss and everyone was staring at us. I didn’t care for he had come to me my dream had come true!

I took his hand getting on an empty elevator .

He pushed the button to stop it from moving and we finished our loving kiss. Then he looked deep into my eyes and

began to explain,

I finally realized that I didn’t like leaving you and I craved for the feeling you gave me when I was near you, then I knew I had to have you.

My love I never want to live another day without you by my side- he didn’t get a chance to finish the sentence for I sealed it with a kiss.

The following summer we wed in our gazebo in the backyard of our magnificent house not far from my friend’s parent’s home.

Our home was filled with his families wealthy and elegant friends and my parents and friends laughing and enjoying themselves.

As we rode away in a white limousine to go to Europe for our honeymoon, he held my hand tenderly.

I knew that our hearts were forever entwined and it was my heart that let me know that he was that special one just for me. I knew then why everyone says, always to follow your heart!
