Bold Words, Sharp Thoughts, Real Truth: The Creative Vision of Kelvin “3ugene” Lee
A feature on how comics, music, and writing shape one creator’s pursuit of authenticity.

Creativity has always been more than a hobby for Kelvin “3ugene” Lee—it’s been survival, self-expression, and a way to carve out authenticity in a world full of stereotypes and expectations. Through comics, music, and writing, Kelvin’s work pushes boundaries while reflecting his personal journey with philosophy, criminal justice, and mental health.
Finding a Tagline That Sticks
When Kelvin first crafted his tagline—“Bold words. Sharp thoughts. Real truth.”—he didn’t know it would come to define his voice. At first, it was just an idea that sounded strong. Over time, it revealed itself as a philosophy.

Sharp thoughts capture the restless energy of a mind always moving—through memories, ideas, and scenarios, whether uplifting or painful.
Bold words connect to his late dance teacher, Turquoise Daughty, who lived by the phrase “go hard or go home.”For Kelvin, that lesson shaped his belief that words must matter and hit with impact.
Real truth is about courage. For Kelvin, silence might be loud, but speaking up is louder—and change can’t happen if truths aren’t faced.
This balance of thought, boldness, and honesty runs through everything he creates.
Blending Music, Comics, and Writing
Kelvin’s creative outlets—music, comics, and writing—aren’t separate worlds. They intersect in a way that reflects who he is and what he values.
They give him a way to make his own mark, rather than only doing what’s expected or forced on him.
They help him organize his thoughts and lighten the weight of depression and anxiety.
They allow him to challenge stereotypes about Black men by presenting himself as well-rounded, profound, and authentic.
“Everything from the music to the comics makes me feel stronger,” he explains. “Realistically, my medical diagnoses make me feel bound by restraints and limitations. But in a comic-based world, there are no limits. I can be as strong or powerful as I want.”
The Impact of Philosophy and Criminal Justice
Kelvin’s studies in philosophy and criminal justice gave him tools to see the world—and his art—differently.
From philosophy, he learned to:
Question the why behind people’s choices
Think about life, death, and legacy more openly
Grow empathetic toward different perspectives
From criminal justice, he learned to:
Respect the weight of every decision
Value rules, responsibility, and accountability
Make his projects legitimate and ethical
These lessons shape his writing and characters. Villains, for example, can’t just be “evil for evil’s sake.” They need contradictions, codes, and motivations that make readers think.
Why X-Men Will Always Matter
While Kelvin doesn’t claim a single favorite comic series, he admits the X-Men hold a special place in his heart. They were his entry into comics, and as he grew older, their themes of discrimination, belonging, and identity mirrored his own struggles.
Dealing with chronic medical issues often made him feel like an outcast. Seeing mutants fight for acceptance while learning to accept themselves resonated deeply. Combined with his academic background in philosophy, psychology, and history, the X-Men mythos became not just entertainment, but reflection.
Music as Emotional Release
For Kelvin, music isn’t about fitting into a single genre—it’s about expression.
“Being a Black man with depression is a catch-22,” he says. “Society expects us to be unemotional, but my diagnosis tells me I have to share and release those feelings.”
R&B, with its soft and melodic beats, inspires much of his work. But he also draws influence from rap, certain country tracks, and any style that feels heartfelt and confessional. At the core, his music aims to:
Ease the soul
Relax the mind
Release the hurt
Put emotions into words
Looking Ahead
After years of delays, setbacks, and challenges, Kelvin’s projects are finally taking shape.
Blood of the Silent and Marked and Chosen, two comic series years in the making, are moving forward.
His music is returning to life as he revisits unfinished songs with plans to complete them.
Weekly YouTube content and smaller projects like short stories and novels continue to expand his creative portfolio.
“It finally feels like my projects are more likely to happen instead of just staying fragments of my imagination,” he reflects.
The Pursuit of Real Truth
Through all of his work—whether comics, music, or articles—Kelvin pushes himself to stay authentic. His “real truth” shows up in metaphors, concepts, and characters that reflect his own struggles with love, trauma, and family dynamics.
Even when it hurts, he believes being honest is the only way to grow.
“Every project I create is more than just art—it’s a piece of my truth, a way to turn struggle into strength, and a chance to leave something real behind.”
