Bob-Manuel Udowku's Story

Born on 18th April 1963 in Enugu State, Bob-Manuel Udokwu started off in humble beginnings. His father Geoffery was a civil servant, and his mother Ezelegbo was a petty trader. He was the fourth child of six, and the second son of his parents. He schooled at St. Peters Primary School, Ogbete Enugu before moving to Oraukwu Grammar School, Anambra, and then the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State in 1986. It was at the university that Bob-Manuel started a one-year professional training as an actor before moving to study B.A in Theatre Arts.

Acting started early for Bob-Manuel Udokwu, he started acting from primary school. After leaving secondary school, he became more serious about acting and later joined some amateur theatre groups and became a guest presenter on FRCN, Enugu. Then, in 1986, he went for a certificate program in Uniport where he was awarded Best Student Actor of the Year (Second Runner-up) in 1987. He later became the National President of the Nigerian Universities Theatre Arts Students Association in 1989. It was during his time as national president that he became aware of an upcoming soap opera which he auditioned for and eventually got. This was his entrance into Nollywood.

Bob-Manuel got his start on the Nigerian TV series, Checkmate where he played the role of Richard Haatrope. Following that, he went on to do movies including Living in Bondage, Karishika, Games Women Play, One Dollar, Rattlesnake, and a whole lot more before slowing down around 2013. He still acts occasionally and also has entered more into politics.

Bob-Manuel Udokwu Today at 60.

Now, Bob-Manuel Udokwu is 60 and far from his days of humble beginnings. Looking back at his life during an interview with him, Bob-Manuel reflecting on his life and if he had any regrets said:

BOB-MANUEL UDOKWU: When I think about regrets maybe there are things one was working towards that has not materialised and then you think okay these have not come in place but you see I mean we are human beings if there are regrets they are very insignificant compared to what one has achieved and then once you are alive you keep working on those things don’t forget.

Like the Igbo proverb says ‘If it’s not the night you don’t describe the day as being bad. Again I have also learned that some people hit their zenith early in life, make fame, make fortune and all that and then they burn out, some hit it in midlife, and some as they grow older and more mature. In a nutshell, I can tell you that I don’t have regrets but there should be concerns after all we are human beings, and those concerns you keep working hard to address as you advance in life.”

We are celebrating Bob-Manuel Udokwu today. From where he started to where he is now, Bob-Manuel Udowku is unrecognizable in all the best ways!
