"Really Chris? This is how you do me after all the things that I have put up with from you? You're gonna leave our family and be with another woman and her child? What about Anissa? What about me," I cried to my fiancé while I watched him pack his bags.

"Amber, I kept telling you that I wasn't happy here. Instead of you asking me what you could do to make it right, you started nagging and complaining more. I hated to come home it was so miserable damn miserable here. You can't do simple things right, you don't cook or clean, and don't get me started on our sex life. As soon as Anissa came, sex flew out of the window. I'm still young, I deserve to be happy too."

I watched as he packed everything and carried his bags to his truck. I was heartbroken, but I knew I needed to get myself together for our daughter. Once Chris left, he wasn't going to see Nissi like he does now. Aubree was someone that we both knew, well I knew her first. She was a co-worker of mine that I got cool with. We weren't the best of friends, but we did hang out with each other outside of work. When things were bad at home, I talked to her, not knowing that she would be the backstabbing heifer that she was. Aubree went back to Chris and reported everything I said. When I found out that she told him, we got into a big argument at work resulting in us both being fired.

"Well, that's the last of it. If I left anything behind, throw it away. I'm never stepping foot back in this hellhole again."

He walked over to me since I was holding Nissi and kissed her on the cheek. "No matter what anyone says about me, I love you unconditionally. You were the one person that I looked forward to seeing when I pulled up in the driveway."

Watching Chris walk out of the door was too painful for me, so I went to my room since he was gone. While looking to make sure he took everything, I came across this little black notebook. Opening it up, I came across all these different numbers. Chris was an avid gambler so they could've meant anything. I looked on the dresser and this low down, dirty man left me with all the past due bills. He didn't pay not one of them. Since I wasn't working, I relied on my unemployment to buy the things Nissi and I needed. I enrolled in school to become a phlebotomist so I could help out around the house, you know take some weight off of him, and this bastard pulls this.

Looking throughout the book, I saw some numbers that had stars by them. It was Tuesday, so I checked to see how much money I had in my account. I had ten dollars to last me until the next day, so I grabbed Nissi, the notebook, my wallet and keys, heading to the corner store. They took debit cards so I could play the numbers on the paper. When I got to the store, I put the numbers on the slip, grabbed Nissi an apple juice and me some sweet tarts. I paid for the items, got my ticket and went back home. I cooked us something to eat, and got us ready for bed. It had been a stressful day, so I turned in early.

The next day, I woke up feeling a little bit better about my situation. I handled my hygiene and cut the news on while fixing breakfast. They always reported the what was going on in the city so I paid it no mind. When they got to the lottery numbers from the night before, I absentmindedly kept doing what I was doing. That is until I heard them say that they had a twenty-thousand dollar winner from the city that I lived in. Running to my wallet, I saw that I matched all five numbers to win the jackpot. All I could do was cry! I couldn't believe that my luck was turning around for the good. Even though I was sad that Chris left me to be with another woman, I was happy that he left that notebook behind. Who knows, maybe he had some more numbers that could hit, but for now, I'll take the little blessings that I had coming my way. Blessings do come in all shapes and sizes.
