Baby, It's Cold Outside

A heartfelt story enjoying winter with my dog.

Looking out the window, a twinge of excitement hits as I take in the snow-covered ground and trees. I can't believe it. It actually snowed!

The local meteorologists had predicted winter weather, yet I wouldn't get your hopes up. In recent years, I'd be lucky to see a few flurries or get a dusting. But now inches of snow cover the landscape.

Jumping with joy, I rush to put on your socks, boots, jacket, stocking cap, and gloves. Getting bundled up for winter reminds me of my childhood when my brothers and I used to go sledding and have snowball fights. Although I don't participate in those winter activities as much as I used to, it doesn't mean I still can't enjoy the weather.

With all my warm clothing on, I prepare to go out. Then I glance at my side, where my dog Baby looks up with her big brown eyes that can melt anyone's heart.

"Do you want to go out?" she tilts her head at my question. "Do you want to play in the snow?"

She starts barking and jumping with as much joy as I do. I manage to get her to stay still long enough to put her jacket and booties on. Once she's bundled up, I hook her leash to her collar and we're off.

As soon as we step outside, she makes a beeline straight for the snow. While she's seen plenty of snows, she still gets excited at seeing the white stuff.

She sniffs the ground, getting snow on her adorable little nose. We continue walking slowly, taking our time and enjoying the beauty of the winter wonderland. All of a sudden, overcome with excitement Baby does her little zoomies in the snow.

I laugh and smile, while taking a few photos, wanting to capture the moment. Seeing Baby love the snow as much as I do warms my heart. She's like a little kid as she plays and rolls around in the fluff. Just like I inherited my love of winter from my mom, Baby seems to have inherited by love of the season too.

After our fun in the snow, it's time to head back inside to warm up. I take our wet clothes and hang them in the bathroom to dry. Then I take a towel and try to wrangle Baby as I dry her off.

Once all nice and dry, Baby curls up on the sofa while I begin making a fire in the wood stove. Within minutes, the house is filled with warmth as I start making a cup of hot chocolate, my go-to drink for winter.

With the fire going and my cup of hot chocolate ready, I return to the sofa where Baby is now napping. I gently kiss her head, then snuggle beside her and wrap a blanket around us. She briefly wakes to nestle her head on my lap.

As Baby naps, I sip my warm beverage and cozy up with a feel-good book. Every once in a while, I glance at the window to see snow continuing falling. I don't know what's a prettier sight, the snow outside or the scene inside with me and Baby snuggled up on the couch.

But that's the beauty of winter. Even though it's cold outside, there's still many heartwarming moments to enjoy.

This was such a cozy, comforting read! I live in Australia and have never seen snow, so I loved the picture you painted for me. I also love dogs!
