Annie

Verse 1
Annie packed a summer dress in January snow
Left a note beside the coffee ring, “I’ve got to go”
Two lunchboxes on the counter, porch light humming low
We watched her taillights turn the street to silver, then to ghost
Verse 2
He was half her years and all her wind on Friday nights
A boy with August on his face and borrowed city lights
Tattoo carves a lighthouse where his shoulder meets his sleeve
She called it fate, we called it leaving, she called it “I can breathe”
Pre-Chorus
She said, “Don’t make me the villain of a story you don’t know”
And every question we could ask was drowning in her no
Chorus
Annie don’t say sorry, Annie don’t look back
She says the past is just a suitcase that she’ll never pack
Annie calls it destiny, Annie calls it truth
Never mind the empty chairs and photographs of youth
She paints her freedom on a wall she didn’t have to break
And every shattered picture frame is someone else’s ache
Annie don’t say sorry, Annie never takes the weight
Verse 3
Dad learned how to braid a braid with trembling, clumsy hands
Science fairs and sideline chairs with one less in the stands
Birthday candles leaned toward a door that wouldn’t move
We wrapped our wishes in the smoke and tried to call it proof
Verse 4
Annie’s smiling through a filter, brownstone balcony
Captions say, “You’ll never fly if you refuse to leave”
Comments flood with hearts and flames—she calls it being brave
We learned how to hold our breath beneath the tidal wave
Pre-Chorus
She said, “You’ll thank me when you’re older, love will teach you what it means”
But love we knew was pancakes, prayers, and patched-up denim seams
Bridge
“Life is short,” she writes at midnight, “Don’t you judge my heart”
As if a vow’s a pair of wings you cut when it gets hard
“It wasn’t me, it was the years, it was the dying spark”
She names the weather for the storm and calls it modern art
Breakdown
You can leave a house and call it home inside your head
You can keep your hands clean while the floorboards burn to red
You can say you had no choice till language comes undone
But a choice that breaks a child still echoes when it’s sung
Outro
There’s a porch light that we leave on, just in case the road
Runs out of alibis and brings her ho
