An Article for Those Who Believe That People around Them Live Better
The Illusion of Unhappiness
The grass is green everywhere. And we probably don't know the colors
For those who are unaware, this means that people are never satisfied with their current situation and that they always feel that others are living better.
As an example, anyone can post on Instagram about how someone travels around the world, on Facebook about someone's wonderful family life, or about real-life stories. All this makes us green with envy because our own life seems so boring and difficult.
But it's not like that. My life is not terrible at all and neither is yours.
Stop comparing yourself to other people
We compare absolutely everything: salary, clothes, physics, the number of followers on Instagram. Surprisingly, the most unpleasant thing about such a comparison is not that we are comparing superficial (or immeasurable) measurable things at all, but that we are comparing everything worse with something better from another person.
This is because we know how bad our own lives can be, as we build only myths about the lives of others. Sometimes you may not even notice that other people's lives are not so beautiful at all, because people usually only tell good stories about themselves that they are proud of, such as promotions, weddings, or vacations.
But no one boasted of his hard days, and right now we compare our imperfect existence to the incredible accomplishments of our "adversaries."
You can control only one life - your own
The unhealthy habit of comparing ourselves to others only makes us unhappy, distracted, and forced to spend energy observing other people's successes instead of our well-being. There is no end to comparisons.
But if the comparison with others does not bring anything important in our life, then why should we constantly experience infinite feelings of inferiority, envy, and injustice?
We are all unique and special in our way. You are also unique and special, so accept yourself as you are.
Give, help and support other people
Much research has been done to prove the benefits of charity and not only to its beneficiaries but also to the happiness and health of the benefactors themselves.
For decades, scientists have shown that positive emotions affect the activity of our body, contributing to the production of endorphins and the "love hormone" oxytocin, which causes a feeling of warmth and happiness. Moreover, there is an old saying, "If you want eternal happiness, help someone."
Happiness comes to us in the form of kindness and joy - positive feedback on everything we have done to help others. And that makes us appreciate life in general.
Be grateful for the little things that bring simple joy
One of the biggest mistakes is that we spend too much time on things we don't have and not on things we already have. And this contradicts the very essence of life satisfaction.
Instead of thinking about unpleasant things that only form bad memories, make a list of what you enjoy. Teach your brain to look positive, because a constant number of small victories brings much more satisfaction compared to the big and rare events that we think will delight us.
Understand that our happiness does not depend on material wealth
The reason so many people struggle to give meaning to life is the belief that material things bring happiness. We make purchases because we think they will add comfort, safety and diversify our lives. But money can't make us happier.
If we want to achieve happiness, we will have to dedicate all our time and energy to the development of inner values: humanity, kindness, and love. As soon as the qualities of simple life are manifested in all their glory, we can begin to enjoy all the small, free things that are already present in our lives.
Retreat for a while in a peaceful environment, understand your life and express your gratitude for something - life should make sense and be conscious.
Look inside yourself, accept your essence, and realize that happiness has been with you for a long time.
Satisfaction is when a person is satisfied with his life and everything he has. We should not stop learning new things, developing, and learning the world. Our ambitious aspirations should make us happy so that we can finally become the best version of ourselves.
Appreciation for our progress is an integral part of happiness, and therefore we must learn how to measure our success to consciously choose happiness, because, like anything in this life, satisfaction depends only on choice.
