A little about myself

I am Idaly Maceano, born and raised in Memphis, TN by my Mother, my Father and my grandparents. I’m a hiphop artist and I’ve been recording music for a little over half my life. I can definitely say that my family influenced my love for music.

I was always a really creative child but I missed out on a lot of opportunities because I was very active and talkative. I remember being in 2nd grade and being denied a leading role because I just could not stay out of trouble but that didn’t discourage me from continuing to do what I loved.

As I grew older I figured out how to record myself on a fisher price recorder over my Mom’s cassette tapes. I’m not sure if she ever found out but those tapes are still out there somewhere. 😂

I always loved writing, music, stories, plays. Writing always made me happy and that was also how I expressed myself.

I remember professionally recording my first song when I was about 14 years old for a energy drink contest, I still have the song. It’s not online it’s on a cd. In high school I met a few of my peers that also enjoyed music, we would write together, record and also perform from time to time in different contests.

When I got into my early 20s, that’s when I truly started to get serious about recording. I met a cousin of mine who was also passionate about music and we sat down (he, myself and another cousin of mine) and came up with iVision Digital which is right now, an entertainment business. I’m still affiliated with this business today and still work toward furthering the brand.

When I moved back to Memphis, TN from college (Birmingham, AL) that was when things began to change for me as an artist. I had no idea that Memphis offered so many amazing opportunities. I was able to build a lot of cool relationships with people that I still talk to til this day and also build my own personal brand.

In about 2013 I changed my name after meeting with a representative from a label who told me my name at the time didn’t fit my music and it didn’t sound professional enough. Of course, I gave it some thought and I came up with the name Idaly Maceano which has been very fitting over the last few years. There’s actually a meaning behind my name. (Idaly is an acronym for “I devote all lyrics to you”.)

These days. I’m still recording but what’s different now is that I’m trying to learn how to brand and market myself in a way that supports who I am as an individual. I noticed early on that in the music business I was always told that I had to be a certain way and I had to represent one thing. It wasn’t until I was older that I started to realize that I could truly brand who I really am and I didn’t really grasp that until I started taking Adam Ivy’s marketing classes. Probably one of the best decisions in my music career this far.
