The news of Nigerian singer Wizkid's mother, Jane Balogun, passing away hit the nation with shock. We all cannot imagine what Wizkid and the Balogun family is going through at this time, and our hearts and condolences go out to them.

1. She Was A Pastor

Wizkid's mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, was a pastor. During an interview with Rolling Stones, Wizkid revealed that it was in the church he used to go with him mom, that his love for music started. He said about it:
I started off in church. My mom was a pastor. I used to go to church with my mom. All my older uncles played instruments in church, and my mom’s younger sisters were all in the choir. That was how I was introduced to music, and I just fell in love.
2. She Had an Interreligious Marriage.

Even though, Jane Balogun was a Christian pastor, her husband is muslim by faith. In fact, according to Wizkid, going to church on his mother's side, then mosques on his father's, opened his eyes to the extent through which love can cross even religious differences. Wizkid said:
My father is a Muslim and my mother is a Christian. I used to accompany my father to the mosque and my mother to the church. That really opened my eyes to the fact that love is the most important religion in the world.
3. She Loved Her Grandkids

Jane Balogun was fortunate enough to live to see her grandchildren, and they loved her. During her birthday, the kids celebrated their grand mother on social media and from pictures and videos, it is evident that Jane loved her grandkids deeply and they also seemed to love her right back.

4. She Is A Full Lagosian

Jane Dolapo Balogun was born in Surulere, Lagos State and also studied in the University of Lagos where she earned a degree in Social Science according to online reports. From the videos of her dressing and how she liked to dance, it is obvious that Mrs Balogun was a full-on Lagosian who loved the good life and enjoyed to dance.
5. She Didn't Refer to Her Son as 'Wizkid'

Even though, we all know Wizkid as Wizkid, his mother didn't refer to him as that. To her, he was always "IB-Boy", a name she coined from Wizkid's name Ibrahim.
News of Jane Dolapo Balogun's death was sadly confirmed on the 18th of August, 2023. May her soul rest in perfect peace.
