5 Last Minute Valentines Dates

Because we're all procrastinators...

By Tara HPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

I get it. We all get it. Valentine's Day is fast approaching and we have nothing to show for it, either because we hate the romantic, hallmark holiday, or because we're still in a pandemic and nothing is normal. Forgetting our masks in our car is still a daily struggle.

Good News : I GOT YOU.

From adventurous to couch potato, high end to college kid broke. Yes, even the Valentines Day hating adult will find something on this list. Sit back, scroll through and get inspired.

1. Hiking, Wine & I Spy ( honestly sounds like it could end in trouble, but we're here for it).

Jump on the trusty google, find the nearest hiking location and start prepping. Snag a trusted wine, competent chocolate & download a playlist you both love. Explain at the beginning of trail head that whoever "Spy's" the most birds, animal tracks, squirrels (whatever you guys come up with), wins whatever they want in bed that night. Enjoy your goodies at the halfway mark of the hike, and enjoy flirting the rest of the way back.

Optional : Buy them a new hiking outfit/gear they've been eyeing.

2. S'mores, Cards & Blanket Forts

Before your beloved gets home, build the blanket fort of your childhood dreams. String lights, mattress, every pillow you own, computer for tunes or a good background tv show. Now the delicacy we all love - s'mores. It can easily be modified for lifestyle choices (vegan mellows, gluten free grahams, etc). Secure all the ingredients and get to roasting! Fireplaces, ovens and stovetops work for achieving roasty, toasty goodness. Where does cards fit into this? That's up to you two! Find your favorite board game, card game or even video game and get to flirting!

Optional : Buy a new toy or lingerie. Winner of the game(s) gets to enjoy the prize of YOU rocking your beautiful/handsome self, or the benefits of a new pleasurable friend.

3. Critiques, Mixed Drinks & Paint

We get it. There are amazing humans who loathe sappy romance. I happen to be one of them, so back up for a second, Hallmark.

Find a RomCom you hate. Yes, I know, you're losing trust in me. Hear me out... Making fun of a RomCom is almost as good as never turning it on, so on this Valentine's Day, choose comfy PJ's, the most annoying RomCom and obliterate that movie to your hearts delight. It wouldn't be complete without your favorite mixed drink close by, and if you just can't stand to devote all attention to the horrible film, snag cheap paint and a canvas, and paint how you REALLY feel about Valentines Day.

4. Fancy, Food & Foreplay

Captured your attention on this one, huh?

Each of you pick 2 restaurants that you both LOVE. Lean on the fancier side here (check and make sure each establishment has takeout if you're uncomfortable eating out in public! Pandemic foodie goodness is still achievable). Now, write your 4 picks on whatever is close by, toss it in a hat and rock, paper, scissors to find out who gets to draw the winning restaurant! Pick each other's fancy outfits, and get going! (You're not off the hook if you're ordering takeout, my dears. Get fancy at home. No excuses.)

Throughout your evening, at least 3 or 4 times, text, write out, or say what you'd like to do to your partner that night when you get home.

5. Road trips, Questions & Options

You don't have much time, so how is this going to work? Generally, I'm a big believer in not HAVING to celebrate a holiday on the exact date. So get your plan in motion. Book an airbnb 5 hours away or 30 mins away. You know what your person will love and the overall vibe that you guys need. Jump on a good deal, even if the hotel is 10 minutes away! This date is all about running away together.

Enter, the questions. Connection is important, and often times we can get lax on how much effort we put into knowing our person. So, start asking questions. (Links for awesome questions at the bottom). Now, the options. If you can, give your partner a card on Valentines Day, with 2 options of places. They get to choose and you both get to book the spot!

I hope this helps, friends! From one procrastinator to the other, make this Valentines Day one that LOOKS like you went all out.
