Why Scream 7 is Not One of My Anticipated Horror Movies of 2026

I've never been less excited for a movie in a horror franchise in a long time.

I know that I probably talked about this topic a long time ago, but I feel that maybe I should provide a much more thorough explanation. Scream 7 is already coming out this month, and I'm not looking forward to the movie at all. I don't like to be so negative about horror movies like this, but like other horror fans, something ruined the excitement of this reboot.

After the success of Scream 5 and 6, I was freaking excited to see the continuation of the sisters' storyline. The ending of Scream 6 was possibly heavily implying that the older sister, who turned out to be the daughter of Billy Loomis from the first Scream film, was going to be become like her father. My theory is that the little sister, Tara, was going to have no choice but to kill her older sister, due to her going insane, like her father.

The ending to Scream 6 left me freaking out, and I was so excited for the new film, only to have the excitement taken away from me before the production of Scream 7. The older sister was fired by the studio, and this led to the actress who played the little sister leaving the project. This pissed off so many fans, including me, who was enjoying the brand-new storyline of the two sisters.

It's a massive shame this happened, because Scream 7 was supposed to be an insane story. And what's even worse about this sudden change, is that we are getting Stu back, who was the sidekick of Billy Loomis. Stu and these other killers straight up changed their target to the two sisters, because of the connection with one of them being the daughter of Billy.

You're seriously telling me that Stu is going to ignore this revelation?

Stu, who was obsessed with Billy, is going to ignore the fact that Billy's bloodline exists? Why the hell would he shake off something like that?

Wouldn't this make Billy's daughter the biggest target for Stu?

I just feel that this is pretty awful writing by the new Scream team. How are they are going to explain Stu's obsession changing from Billy's bloodline to Sidney? I get that Sidney did kill Billy, which makes sense why they have unfinished business, but Billy's daughter needed to be present for the final showdown for Stu!

And why the hell are the best friends of the sisters' returning in Scream 7 too? They were so close with the sisters, wouldn't they want to go with the sisters, since one of them actually fell in love with Tara?

I feel that their losses are going to be felt so bad in the new installment, and like many fans, I really miss the sisters. They were a perfect addition to the reboot of Scream, and it sucks that we won't be seeing them again. At least one more movie would have been perfect for their storyline, why not end it with the final showdown with Stu's character, who is somehow still alive?

Again, I don't like to be so negative like this when it comes to movies like this, but it's hard to ignore the elephant in the room here. I miss the sisters so freaking bad, and I'm sad that we won't ever see them again in the franchise. They belonged here, and it's awesome how the filmmakers were able to conjure up a new direction for the franchise, and the inclusion of the sisters was a great addition!

How do you guys feel about this? Are you excited for the new direction the franchise is now going in? Do you miss the sisters too?

I love the Scream franchise. The first three were excellent. I think they were all written by the same writer and the continuity throughout really shows. 4 was the weakest for me. I’ve enjoyed the two newer entries and know what you mean about the sudden change in direction. I’ll definitely be giving it a go though. If the writing is good they can make it all make sense in that self-aware Scream way.
