Why clowns terrify us?
Are you afraid of Clowns? Discover why that happens.

Now that we've established that clowns give us goosebumps and make us want to hide under the covers, it's time to go into that topic. Surprised? Who doesn't enjoy watching performers with white faces, red noses, and crazy hair juggle and create balloon animals for a job, am I right?
However, it appears that many people don't, and there is an odd explanation for this. Do you know what "coulrophobia" is? It's the term used in science to describe a fear of clowns. The presence of clowns causes severe fear and anxiety in those who have coulrophobia. Sometimes to the extent that they become so sick that they cannot bear to look at a picture of one. But why are clowns so frightening? Science says that it has to do with a number of things.
Let's begin with the makeup, which is typically really dramatic. This conceals the clown's true identity and completely alters their appearance, which can be unnerving. According to scientists, one of the reasons humans occasionally find clowns frightening is that we struggle to understand what lies beyond those enormous phony smiles or what their genuine motivations are.
Big shoes also don't help. Clowns appear awkward and ungainly because their clothes are many sizes too large. Their movements are unpredictable, which might give us the shivers.
Their behavior is another factor in why we are afraid of them. It is well known that clowns are unpredictable and mischievous.Because we can never predict what they will do next, it can be frightening as well.
Some of us have only ever heard of spooky clowns in stories.Consider the spooky clown Pennywise from Stephen King's It. At first glance, this man can seem like a jovial clown, but don't be duped. He genuinely takes on various forms and enjoys hurting people.
The Joker, a notorious villain who was often at odds with Batman, is listed elsewhere on the list. There is little doubt that the reputation of the honest clown is damaged by all of these stories.
Let's examine their past, shall we?
To be clear, clowns are not only amusing folks with enormous shoes and red noses. They resemble the circus world's super heroes. They spread happiness and amusement among the public while acting ridiculously.
They have a vast history, both historically and mythologically. People would conduct comedic acts to amuse the public in ancient civilizations like Egypt or Rome.
These entertainers were revered in their communities and were referred to as fools or jesters. Moving forward to the Middle Ages, things started to become a little more serious: some authorities outlawed comedic performances entirely because they didn't appreciate the concept of people having fun and making jokes.
People weren't going to accept this, so they came up with a plan to keep the laughter going by forming clandestine societies of clowns. In order to conceal their true identities, these clowns would perform in public places and at private events while donning masks and costumes. Clowns were eventually allowed to perform in public once the ban was repealed, and boy did they ever. With their hilarious actions and outrageous outfits, they became a mainstay of the circus industry. Some, like the Great Charlie Chaplin, even achieved fame.
How about the clown king? Have you heard of him before?
Let me now tell you the tale of Joseph Joe Grimaldi, also referred to as the clerk and the king of clowns.Yes, that one definitely made my tongue twitch. In his line of employment, Joe was a true legend. born in the era before smartphones and Tik Tok, in 1778. Joe Grimaldi was instantly a Superstar all over the world. He had a clowning-like manner that was unheard of at the time.
Because of how eerie he appeared in his costume, it was unnerving. The most striking aspect of all was his completely white makeup, which covered every visible inch of skin including his ears, lips, and nose. His vivid colors and Star-Spangled clothing battled with the harlequins for visual pop. His antics were so amusing that he immediately gained notoriety throughout London. Without ever saying a word, Joe had this amazing talent for making people laugh.
"Joey the Clown" was the name of one of Joe's most well-known characters. This endearingly bumbling clown who just couldn't seem to get anything right was the culprit. He frequently overturned, tripped over objects, and generally embarrassed himself, but that's what made him so brilliant. His silliness won him a lot of fans. Joe's life wasn't all giggles and laughter, though he also had some really trying moments. One reason was that despite having numerous health problems, Joe never lost his sense of humor, even during his most difficult times.Even when he was having trouble himself, he always managed to make people smile.
Not all clowns had a reputation for being outrageous and upbeat. On that point, allow me to tell you a tale of Emmett Kelly, a different kind of clown.
In Kansas, he was born in 1898. Emmett did not have a happy childhood; his parents divorced when he was a little child, and his family was not very wealthy. However, Emmett was a strong individual, and he used his sense of humor to get through the difficult times.
Young Emmett joined the circus when he was a young guy. He began by performing on a large suspended contraption as a trapeze artist, but soon discovered that his actual talent lay in making people laugh. As a result, he changed careers to become a clown and was a born addict. That's because he also possessed a wide range of additional skills that set him apart. He was an outstanding pantomime performer, for starters.
He could therefore convey a complete narrative simply via the use of his body and facial gestures. Without uttering a word, he could make you smile, sob, or be afraid.
Emmett was very skilled at improvising. Without any prior forethought, he would spontaneously come up with amusing actions or remarks. "Weary Willy" was the name of one of his most well-known routines. It was a sad, depressed clown who constantly seemed to be out of luck, but despite his sadness, he was entertaining. You couldn't help but feel bad for him while simultaneously finding him amusing. Grock was a famous clown who was similar. Charles Adrian WETA was his true name. He was a Swiss clown who became well-known at the start of the 20th century. Rock was a pro at physical humor. He could juggle anything from balls to eggs to plates and even a razor-sharp meat cleaver. Do you believe it?
And he didn't simply juggle them; he would balance them while standing on one leg on his nose, forehead, and even the tip of his finger. However, Grok's popularity was due to more than just his juggling. He was a great musician as well. He was able to play any instrument, including the piano, accordion, and violin, and he did so in the most ludicrous ways imaginable.
Imagine him playing the piano while standing on his head. Believe it or not, Grock was also something of a philosopher. He once said, "Laughter is the Sun that drives winter from the human face," and you know what? He was right because every time you watch one of his performances, I bet you can't help but smile." There are still many professional clowns performing all over the world despite varied evaluations.
Most of the time, certain actors or comedians work hard to make people laugh. They can be found in a variety of places, including circuses, amusement parks, schools, shopping centers, and even hospitals. There are an estimated 50 000 to 100 000 professionals practicing clouds around the world, and it doesn't include amateurs who are also skilled at the craft. You might want to take into account that 95% of clowns work long hours and have other jobs to augment their wages if you're interested in becoming one.
